English writing is dynamic and continuous.It is a process of constant reproduction,which inevitably touches students’ complex emotional activities.As important emotional factors,self-efficacy and anxiety run through all stages of English writing.Among them,writing self-efficacy reflects writers’ confidence and writing anxiety reflects the changes of writers’ self-consciousness,thoughts,emotions and behaviors.Hence,the interaction between the two affects writers’ writing process together.Under the guidance of self-efficacy theory and affective filter hypothesis,choosing 304 senior high school students of grade 2 from a county-level high school in Hanzhong City as the research subjects,this study applies questionnaire and interview method to explore the differences of writing self-efficacy and writing anxiety among high school students with different writing levels,and analyze the correlation between writing self-efficacy and writing anxiety of senior high school students.Through the data analysis,the research results show that:(1)There are significant differences between high and low group students in writing self-efficacy and its dimensions;(2)There are significant differences between high and low group students in writing anxiety and its sub items;(3)The overall self-efficacy of high and low group students in English writing is in the middle level,the overall anxiety of high group students in English writing is in the low level,and the overall anxiety of low group students is in the middle level.Most importantly,there is a significant negative correlation between their writing self-efficacy and writing anxiety.Eventually,the author proposes that in English writing teaching,teachers should teach students effective writing strategies,give them positive feedback and evaluation,and change the traditional results based teaching method,so as to bring students more successful writing experience and promote their writing self-efficacy.Meanwhile,teachers should pay more attention to students’ emotional state and strengthen thebasic writing skills training so that students can get positive emotional experience and improve their writing anxiety. |
