Speaking as one of the four basic skills of English,occupies an important position in English teaching.Under the quality-oriented education,spoken English learning of high school students is paying more and more attention.How to improve spoken English of high school students has become a very important topic.At the same time,high school students also have a variety of problems in spoken English learning.In this situation,the high school students need to really understand their problems in spoken English learning,and then use strategies to overcome them.Metacognition is self-reflection,self-control,and self-regulation of the cognitive process.Studies have shown that students with high levels of metacognition can effectively use learning strategies.Metacognitive strategies are a typical learning strategy.Learners can use metacognitive strategies to supervise,standardize and guide the cognitive process.By training students on metacognitive strategies,they can improve their metacognitive level,and then improve their spoken English.This study is to test the influence of metacognitive strategies on high school spoken English through metacognitive strategy training,hoping to improve senior high school students’ spoken English.The subjects of this empirical study is two parallel classes in grade one of high school,namely experimental class and control class.The experimental class received metacognitive strategy training,while the control class only received conventional teaching.Before and after the training,two classes were given questionnaires,oral tests,and interviews.The key research questions of this study are as follows: 1.Are there any changes in the use of metacognitive strategies by high school students with and without metacognitive strategy training ? 2.Can metacognitive strategy training improve the spoken English of high school students?Through the analysis of the results of the questionnaire,it is found that the students who accept the metacognitive strategies have a better understanding of the metacognitive strategies and can use them in oral activities.In addition,they will carry out self planning,self-monitoring and self reflection in oral tasks.By analyzing the results of oral test,it is found that compared with the students who have not received the training of metacognitive strategies,the students who have received the metacognitive strategies have improved their spoken English,especially in the correctness of pronunciation and the accuracy of words and grammar.Through the collation of the interviews,it is found that the results of the interviews are similar to those of the questionnaire.Students learn the importance of metacognitive strategies and apply metacognitive strategies in spoken English learning.
