Research On The Text And Music Development Of Sichuan Opera The Legend Of White Snake

As one of Chinese four major folklores,the story of white snake has been evolving for thousand of years from its original version.Nowadays,the story is still being deconstructed and interpreted from different aspects.Along with the evolution of the story comes the thrive of Sichuan Opera(SO)which is a more than four-hundred-year-old opera,and which has been listed as national intangible cultural heritage.In mid-late 19th century,an opera named the legend of the White Snake(LOWS)appeared in Sichuan area.It gave birth to the opera version of the story of white snake and enriched the story connotation.Sichuan-opera-version the legend of the White Snake(SO-LOWS)is an Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance repertoire of our country.From the tens of hours "liantaiben version" to several-hour "refined and simplified version",they are loved and sought after by the audience.These love and pursuit continuously drive the development and evolution of SO-LOWS.Such development and evolution also contribute to the inheritance and development of Sichuan Opera.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the general situation of Sichuan Opera and the legend of White Snake.The second chapter summarizes the development of both White Snake Story and the dramatic text of the legend of the White Snake.The third chapter discuses the opera’s music evolution.The fourth chapter intorduces the Chongqing University version of the legend of the White Snake.This chapter presents the dramatic text modification and music selection;the analysis of the characters;and the folk psychology revealed in the text.The inheritance and development of Sichuan Opera in the new era and the significance of campus Sichuan Opera are discussed in the last chapter five.
