Research On The Cultural Memory Writing In Shi Shuqing’s Trilogy Of Taiwan

Shi Shuqing,who had the urge to write biographies for Taiwan,has completed the creation of the long historical novel Trilogy of Taiwan,which traces back the history of Taiwan since modern times,from the Qing Dynasty in Jiaqing to “The 228 incident”.The novel describes the immigration history of Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty,the colonial history during the Japanese colonization in Taiwan,and KMT domination after the restoration.From the novels,we can see that Shi Shuqing recreated the cultural features of Taiwan in various historical periods and described the unique cultural landscape of Taiwan in a detailed way in the process of presenting the past history of Taiwan.This paper aims to study her Trilogy of Taiwan,explore the rich cultural landscape presented in her novels and the inheritance and rupture of Taiwan’s cultural memory,further analyze the Shi Shuqing’s exploration and reflection on the causes and solutions of Taiwanese identity problem from the cultural perspective.This paper is mainly divided into the following parts:The introduction of the paper mainly introduces Shi Shuqing’s creative experience,combs the existing research results of Shi Shuqing,and clarifies the background and significance of the thesis.The first chapter starts with the development and creative features of Taiwan’s “Roman-Fleuve”,discusses the inheritance and new changes of Shi Shuqing’s Trilogy of Taiwan to the creation tradition of “Roman-Fleuve” in Taiwan,and further discusses how Shi Shuqing used the writing of cultural memory to realize the construction of Taiwan’s history.The second chapter analyzes the three most representative cultural memory writings in the Trilogy of Taiwan,also demonstrates how Shi Shuqing presents the form of Taiwan’s cultural memory since modern times and the phenomenon of breaking and confusion in the process of cultural memory inheritance through the writing of space,language and folk memory.The third chapter analyzes the significance of reconstructing Taiwan’s cultural memory in the Trilogy of Taiwan.In the author’s opinion,Trilogy of Taiwan examine the cultural situation behind Taiwan’s identity dilemma through cultural memory,and make a deeper exploration of Taiwan’s modern history.The conclusion part reaffirms that Shi Shuqing’s writing of cultural memory assumes the function of historical construction and promotes the review and reflection of Taiwan’s past,present and future relations.
