The Decline And Reconstruction Of The Authority Of The Tang Dynasty During The An Lunshan Rebellion

The An Lushan Rebellion from the Fourteenth year of Tianbao to the first year of Baoying is the turning point of the Tang Dynasty from prosperity to decline,which has an impact on the authority of the Tang Court.During the An Lushan Rebellion,The decline and restoration process of Authority of the Tang dynasty is tortuous and periodic.The war situation is the most important factor affecting the authority of the Tang Dynasty.Non-war factors,such as the situation of two emperors reigning and the Tang Dynasty policy of pardoning the puppet officials,also affects the authority of the Tang Dynasty.The writing of country name,year number,official name and place name of the Epitaph during the An Lushan Rebellion reflected the change of the influence and authority of the Tang Court.Generally speaking,country name,year number and“Jun” of Tang state are used together.country name,year number of Yan state and“zhou”are used together.The epitaph writing in different stages shows different features of authority.The epitaph writing in the area ruled by Yan is much more strict than that in the Yan official epitaph writing.After the recovery of the two capitals,The Tang Dynasty eliminated the influence of the Yan Dynasty by changing the writing of epitaphs buried in Tang state,such as the writing of country name,year number,official titles and place name,which reflected the authority of the Tang Court.The writing style of Epitaph in Shi Yan is loose and mixed.The writing of state name,year number,official name and place name is more random,which reflects the meager authority of Shi-Yan regime.With the pacification of the An Lushan Rebellion,the writing style of epitaphs in the Tang Dynasty became more and more habitual,and there was no tendency of extreme writing.Tang Authority had different characteristics in each stage,so the measures taken by the Tang Court to restore the authority of the dynasty also had the characteristics of stages.Xuanzong used different measures to maintain the authority of the dynasty in diffe rent stages,suzong maintained the authority of the Tang court from both the emperor Personal Authority and the Dynasty Authority.Suzong sought to highlight his own authority by showing filial piety and weakening the authority of the Xuanzong clan,through the sacrificial rites,the restoration and reform of astronomical institutions,and the veneration of Buddhism and Taoism,it is proved that the Tang dynasty was under the command of Heaven.
