Born and raised in the United States,Chinese American female writers who bear the indelible mark of Chinese culture,begin to record ethnic and cultural conflicts of identity through literary narration.Their writing has become one of the main and foremost topics of Chinese American English literature academic research.Since the twenty-first century,study of Chinese American female English writers focuses more on mainstream writers and their works,such as Maxine Hong Kingston and Amy Tan.Research on the evolution of Chinese American female’s living condition and dynamic self-consciousness is lacking.On the basis of current academic situation,apart from the popular works The Woman Warrior and The Joy Luck Club,the research object would also include Jade Snow Wong’s Fifth Chinese Daughter and Everything I Never Told You written by Celeste Ng in terms of diachrony.The long spanning and various backgrounds of research object could make a more systematic analysis on identity changes of Chinese American female English writers.Meanwhile,this thesis would adopt “the other” theory of post-colonialism as the theoretical basis,along with method of text comparative analysis,literary survey and other research means to conduct a comparative study on four works of Chinese American female English writers.This thesis would mainly concentrate on the cultural mentality in the literary works of Chinese American English female writers from the perspectives of “ethnic other”,“cultural other” and “gender other” to further explore the self-identity construction of Chinese American females under the guidance of “the other” theory.The changes of identity of Chinese American females in the era would be discussed as well,which is from the early acceptance,to active resistance,and finally to the identity diversity.This thesis would supplement the related research on the identity change phenomenon in the works of Chinese American female English writers from the perspective of “the other” theory.Meanwhile,this thesis would focus on the identity changes of Chinese American females and reasons behind the changes,to contribute fresh thoughts for the academic research of contemporary Chinese American English literature.
