A Study On The Cultural Presupposition To The Translation Of The Classic Of Mountains And Seas From The Perspective Of Intertextuality

To translate the splendid Chinese culture into foreign countries,widely promote Chinese culture spread,and let more foreign people know China is the great expectation of many people.At this point,Chinese classics containing excellent Chinese culture have attracted the attention of our government and many scholars.Both the domestic translators and foreign sinologists are occupied in the translation of Chinese classic works.The studies on the translation of Chinese classic works have also been on the rise.Investigating the studies on the translation of Chinese classic works in recent years,the author finds that there are relatively few studies on the translation of Chinese mythological classics.Considering that the Chinese mythological classics actually contain abundant traditional Chinese culture and reflect the changes and the development of Chinese civilization,it would be a pity that there is not much research on the translation of Chinese mythological classics.Therefore,the author puts the key point on the translation of mythological classics,hoping the study can promote people’s awareness of the research on the translation of Chinese mythological classics.The author chooses two versions of the representative work of Chinese mythological classics The Classic of Mountains and Seas,translated by Anne Birrell and Wang Hong respectively,and studies the cultural presupposition to the translation of The Classic of Mountains and Seas from the perspective of intertextuality.This paper finds that because of the cultural diversity and cultural vacancy,there are similar cultural presupposition and non-shared cultural presupposition in the translation of The Classic of Mountains and Seas.The translators have applied the interlingual intertextuality to deal with the similar culture.And the target readers can mobilize their intertextual cognition and understand the translation version well.In terms of the non-shared cultural presupposition,the translators interpret and explain the original work with the help of source language intertexts to fill in the cultural deficiency so as to help target readers understand the English version.
