The Analysis Of Pragmatic Empathy And Apathy In The Chinese Elderly’s Communication

Pragmatic empathy and apathy has been a widely in-depth discussed topic internationally,while it is less investigated in China,and the domestic related researches intensively focus on the empathetic and apathetic reflection in deixis dimension but other pragmatic dimensions are less studied,and the topic about the elderly communication is also relatively less studied.In order to narrow this domestic pragmatic research gap,this thesis mainly talks about the construction of pragmatic empathy and apathy,based on recent pieces of the dictated materials from the Chinese elderly interview program,Sunset Glow,of CCTV 12,with a reference of related international and domestic researches.Moreover,the discussion is mainly mapped into seven parts:influence of personal experience,perceived cognitive empathy/apathy,the influence of individual purposes,perceived affective empathy/apathy,nonverbal construction,perceived sharing empathy and the influence of context.Finally,the conclusion can be drawn that the construction of pragmatic empathy and apathy in Chinese elderly communication can be not only reflected in deixis,but also in some other verbal or nonverbal pragmatic dimensions(mental verbs,follow-up questions,facial expressions,etc.),while the selection of pragmatic empathy and apathy can be influenced by factors such as personal experiences,individual purposes and context etc..
