| In the informational society,the level of information literacy(IL)will affect English teachers’ teaching methods and then affect the quality of teaching.In the relevant research of English teachers’ IL,the research on middle school English teachers is increasing year by year,but the proportion is still small.And,in the regional investigation,there is little research on the IL of middle school English teachers in Guangxi,especially in Nanning city.Therefore,considering the regional particularity of Nanning as the capital of Guangxi,this study takes middle school English teachers in Nanning city as the research subjects and uses quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate their IL status quo,aiming to make targeted suggestions for further improving the IL of middle school English teachers in Nanning city.Therefore,the following research questions are addressed:(1)What is the information awareness status quo of middle school English teachers in Nanning city?(2)What is the information knowledge of middle school English teachers in Nanning city?(3)What is the information ability status quo of middle school English teachers in Nanning city?(4)What is the information morality status quo of middle school English teachers in Nanning city?(5)Are there any differences in the demographic variables of IL of middle school English teachers in Nanning city?In this study,a questionnaire and interviews were used as research tools,with 109 middle school English teachers as research subjects.The questionnaire was based on the theory of IL and the questionnaires of previous studies.The collected data were analyzed with SPSS19.0 and wjx.cn.In addition,the author transcribed interview recordings as the basis of qualitative analysis.The following findings were obtained:(1)Middle school English teachers in Nanning city have a strong sense of information awareness.However,a small number of English teachers lack a deep understanding of the benefits of information-based English teaching,do not know the internal information needs of their own development,and lack the awareness of actively focusing on English teaching information research conferences or forums.(2)Middle school English teachers in Nanning city have relatively rich information knowledge.For the purpose of saving time,English teachers prefer to use simple and efficient software when selecting needed software.Some English teachers have insufficient understanding of the concepts of IL and educational informatization and lack of awareness of in-depth learning.(3)Middle school English teachers in Nanning city have relatively strong information ability.Generally speaking,their ability to acquire information,manage information,integrate and display information,and communicate is relatively good;what needs to be further strengthened is the ability to process information,to use information technology to objectively evaluate English teaching resources and students’ English learning,to use subjective initiative to critically evaluate information and its sources,and to use information technology to conduct professional research for English teaching.(4)Middle school English teachers in Nanning city have good information morality,mainly reflected in their awareness of information morality.English teachers have formed good moral standards in their daily online social activities.However,a few teachers think that the laws and regulations about network information security have little influence on teachers’ professional development,so they seldom study the laws and regulations in depth.(5)There is no significant difference in the IL of middle school English teachers in Nanning City,between genders,ages,professional titles,teaching ages,teaching periods,public and non-public schools,demonstrative and non-demonstrative schools,but there is a significant difference in the IL of English teachers in the analysis of education background.English teachers still need to further learn relevant information knowledge to promote the balance of information knowledge of English teachers at different educational levels.Finally,based on the major findings of this study,suggestions are put forward to improve the IL of English teachers.Firstly,English teachers should devote more attention to IL subjectively.Second,schools should attach importance to the construction of an information-based teaching environment,and experts can also be invited to give regular lectures on modern English teaching.Thirdly,the education department can make corresponding training policies for English teachers,such as combining short-term training in winter and summer vacation with school-based diversified training. |
