The Study Of Grapheme In Block Printed Edition Of Fuchun Tang Of Ming-Dynasty On Xue Rengui’s Journey Across The Sea

In the diachronic evolution,the Chinese Characters,would have variation,which is always a change in the stable,and the change tends to be stable.and the Characters will take on different appearance in different times.The Ming dynasty is an important period in the development of Chinese Characters.Especially its Character appearance is worthy of attention.The research materials selected in this paper is Xue rengui’s journey across the sea,which was published as a legend script by the Jinling bookstore in the period named Wanli of The Ming Dynasty.During this time,commodity economy got further development in China,the bud of capitalism could be found,the printing industry were coming into the boom and the popular literature was developing in a high speed.Xue rengui’s journey across the sea is one of the late Ming dynasty popular literature works,and the characters’ figure of regular script in it is an epitome of the general picture of words and font at this time.We can be able to know the status of the development of Chinese Characters to the Ming dynasty by describing,exploring and analyzing the regular script’s figure in the Xue rengui’s journey across the sea,thus further sums up the law of the development of the Character.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part described the Characters’ figure in the Xue rengui’s journey across the sea on the whole,summarized and neatened the them.Finally,25073 valid glyph were picked out,and were boiled down to 1866 character species.The second part is based on the internal research of the font,and it was divided into seven parts: The variation of the component level,the variation of the stokes level,the words’ function substitution,the remaining of ancient Chinese Characters,the newly created glyph,and other questions.The variation of the component level includes the increase and decrease,replacement and the change of the position.The variation of the stokes level includes the increase and decrease of the stokes,the transformation of writing way and the stokes’ position,and the transformation of glyph which was influenced by the cursive script.The words’ function substitution includes the substitution of Chinese Characters with similar shape and the substitution of Chinese Characters with same or similar pronunciation.The remaining of ancient Chinese Characters has two levels,whole glyph and part of glyph,remaining included.And the newly created glyph part is to discuss the relationship between the newly created glyph and the standard glyph.The third part is the comparative study of the Xue rengui’s journey across the sea and the related part which was accepted in A Glossary of Popular Chinese Character Since Songand Yuan Dynasties.The research found some questions,such as some common words that were not accepted or wrongly accepted in A Glossary of Popular Chinese Character Since Song and Yuan Dynasties,and then discussed some problems in the determination of the regular script in this book.the forth part is to explore the features of the variation of the glyph and the reason why.The regular script in the Xue rengui’s journey across the sea have lot of Characteristics,such as multi-form coexistence,the coexistence of both the simple and the complicate,etc.And had a further discussion on the external cause and internal cause of these variations.In this paper,though the research of the Xue rengui’s journey across the sea,we found that in the development process of Chinese Characters,we found that in the development process of Chinese Characters,there are some unstable changes:multi-form coexistence,the commonality of both the simple and the complicate,writing arbitrariness,etc.But we can find at the same time that all these transformations finally follow the rule of seeking for the simplification in a whole.And these variations of glyph have regular rules,which also shows that the development of Chinese characters has stability.
