A Report On E-C Translation Of Emerging Energy Alternatives For Sustainable Development(Excerpt)

Sustainability of environment is an emerging global issue at present.Although there is immense potential for energy generation from renewable energy,various issues related to these sources of energy still need to be resolved.Under such background,emerging green energy technologies are the healing technology for environment that covers a wide spectrum of materials and methods,leading energy generation to non-toxic,clean,and green products.Therefore,emerging green energy technologies are playing an increasingly important role in environmental protection.This translation task will enable our country to understand the advanced western emerging energy technologies,and promote the development of Chinese and western emerging energy technologies.This report takes E-C translation of Emerging Energy Alternatives for Sustainable Environment(Chapter 11 and 13)as a foundation.The original text mainly introduces the role of sustainable technologies in clean environmental energy production programs.This report includes four parts:The first part is task description,including background information of the source text,features of the source text and significance of the task.The second part introduces process description,consisting of preparations before translation,translation process and the quality control.The third part is case analysis which focuses on the translation strategies of the source text at the lexical and syntactic levels,presenting how the Functional Equivalence Theory is utilized into the translation process.The fourth part is the summary of translation practice,including reflection on the translation process and the limitations of translation tasks.The purpose of this article is to provide more experience for promoting the translation of emerging energy technologies under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory and to increase people’s awareness of environmental protection.Through the translation task and the writing of the translation report,the translator draws the following conclusions:The translator should strengthen the learning of both English and Chinese so that the translation does not have translationese.At the same time,the translator needs to read a lot of relevant professional materials to improve the accuracy and authority of the translation.Last,the translator should accumulate a large amount of theoretical knowledge in order to use it flexibly in translation practice.
