| China and Korea are close to each other,and China,as the cultural radiation of ancient East Asian civilization,has become the main object of exchange and learning in Korea.Korean literati have always shown special preference to "Visiting Beijing City and writing about Beijing City",even during the Ming and Qing Dynasties when travel was restricted,they failed to stop their enthusiasm for traveling to China.Every tribute season,a large number of Korean literati would follow the diplomatic mission to China to see China at a glance,leaving their own works of travel literature,such as"Chao Tian Lu" and "Yan Xing Lu".However,with the opening of the gateway of East Asia by western ships and cannons,the original cultural order of East Asia was impacted by the modern Western culture and lost its original balance,East Asian literati fell into the reflection of traditional culture one after another.At that time,Beijing,as the ancient capital of the dynasties,has become a camp for the conservatives to adhere to the "cultural tradition".Here,the cultural conflicts between the East and the West were more prominent,more obvious and more representative.For Koreans,modern Beijing has become a "familiar stranger",with both familiar "traditional culture",traditional lifestyle that has to go bankrupt,and new cultural trend under the influence of western culture.These cultures have blended together,have shown the interweaving of"tradition,present and future" in time,and the unique cultural landscape in which Chinese and Western cultures blend together on the field.For Korea,who also experienced the dark period of modern times,writing such Beijing stories is undoubtedly the most tactful and effective way of self-reflection and self-writing.Many Korean literati who travel to China have recorded such a Beijing city in their pens,including those who went to China for exile,study and business purposes,as well as those who came to China for travel and residence.Based on this,it is intended to take Beijing described in the modern Korean travel essay as the point of penetration,closely following the theme of "Research on Beijing Travel Essay of Koreans during the Japanese Occupation Period",investigating the image of Beijing written by modern Korean literati.The first chapter is the introduction,which expounds the purpose,the significance and the methods of the thesis topics,etc.The second chapter is entitled "the background of the tide of Koreans’ traveling to Beijing during the Japanese occupation period".This chapter is divided into three parts:"the decline of China and the demise of the Korean empire","the advent of railways and the modern travel of colonial people","the rise of modern media and ’The May Forth Movement’ broke out".It discusses the purpose and reason of large quantities of Koreans packing into Beijing during the period of Japanese occupation,the means of transportation they took,and other background reasons that promoted the tide of them traveling to Beijing.The third chapter is entitled "Beijing Experience and Narration".This chapter,with "experience and discourse" as the point of penetration,focuses on the Aspects of "searching for the former’China’","the hybrids of modernization",and "looking backward on Korea through Beijing",analyzes the narrative characteristics of Koreans’ experience in Beijing.The conclusion section discusses and summarizes the significance of Beijing as Space and Place.Beijing is a window for Korean people to "discover themselves" and"reflect on themselves".As a field in the modern Korean travel essay,Beijing belongs to"imagination" rather than "image".With the deepening of Yan Xing Lu’s research,the Koreans’ Chinese experience narrative has become a hot research topic,but basically concentrated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.There are not many works in Chinese experience narrative in the early 20th century.Based on this,it is tried to adopt Yi-Fu Tuan’s research methods of human geography to discuss the image of Beijing in the modern transformation period.It is hoped to be a new attempt in the study of Chinese experience narrative. |
