The Research Of Modality Structure "Gai+VP"

"Gai+VP" structure is a polysemous modal structure formed by the combin ation of the "gai" and other predicate components "VP",and it is a very comm on modality expression in Chinese.Because the word "gai" in that structure can not only represent the moral modality "obligation",but also the cognition mod ality "conjecture",the main form of expression "gai+VP" structure naturally has the characteristic of polysemy.In the process of in-depth research on the structu re of "gai+VP",we found that the two different modality meanings of the struc ture "gai+VP" are not two completely independent existences,rather they are cl osely related in the historical origins and the afterwards usage.In view of this,this paper took the structure of "gai+VP" as the research object,analyzed the different modal meanings of the structure from the perspect ives of its constitution,diachronic evolution,formal mark,and subjectivity,and investigated the relations and differences among different modal verb meanings.This not only contributed to the study of other modal verbs,but also provided some references for the research on the second language teaching and language information processing.In general,this paper is mainly composed of the following aspects:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly expounded the research purpose and significance,research object and scope of this paper.It systematical ly sorted out the relevant studies of the former scholars,pointed out their achie vements and shortcomings,which was the basis for the next research plan put f orward.The second chapter mainly investigated the constitution of "gai+VP" structu re,and systematically analyzed "gai" and "VP" the two main components of th is structure.This paper made a semantic analysis of "gai",studied its diachroni c evolution,and drew out its two different modal meanings.In addition,it anal yzed the scope of the variable "VP" in the "gai+VP" structure from the perspe ctive of language practice,so as to define the different modal meanings of "gai+VP" structure.The third chapter mainly studied the two different modal meanings of "gai+VP" structure from the co-occurrence components of the "gai+VP" structure,to define the connections and difference between the different modal meanings of"gai+VP" structure,and tried to find out the reasonable basis for distinguishing the two different modality meanings with more scientific evidence from this stru cture’s formal mark.The fourth chapter tried to make a reasonable explanation for the subjectivi ty and subjectivism of "gai+VP" structure by combining the related theories of subjectivity and subjectivism.With the diachronic evolution of the word "gai",t he grammatical path and subjectivity evolution process were organically associat ed,and the subjective path of the structure "this+VP" was deduced.The last chapter is the conclusion of this paper,which summarized the wh ole paper,and pointed out the necessity of further research.
