Fables Of Rural Suffering And Reflection On The Crisis Of Modernization

In the contemporary literary world,Yan Lianke presents distinct artistic features in his novel creation because of his courage to face reality and his persistent writing of rural suffering.Since the mid-1990 s,Yan Lianke has written a number of novels about disease,taking the living condition of people under disease and disease as the object of expression,showing a series of problems that "radical modernity" has brought to China,especially to the Chinese countryside since the founding of the people’s Republic of China.From the perspective of disease writing,this paper explores the representation of the times behind Yan Lianke’s disease writing,and analyzes the social and cultural direction and connotation of disease metaphor."Sunlight fleeting" describes "throat blockage" as a fable against the fate of survival;"living" shows the survival crisis of vulnerable groups in the writing of the disabled;"Dingzhuang Dream" mainly describes Dingzhuang’s absurd dream of "selling blood to get rich".And the cruel living situation after the disillusionment of the dream caused by AIDS caused by selling blood.The "folly" in rake Heaven Song and the "neurosis" in "Song of elegance" show the characters’ attempt to cure "mental illness" by means of "self-suicide" and "escape".Through the writing of "throat blockage","disability","fever","dementia" and "neurosis",Yan Lianke shows the "tragedy of fate" at the beginning of modernization,the "social and historical tragedy" of the revolutionary period,and the "tragedy of economic carnival" and "the tragedy of identity crisis" in the period of development.It shows the Chinese-style "radical" modernization process formed by the political modernity in the revolutionary period and the economic modernity in the development period.Behind the seemingly "anti-modernity" writing,it is actually the expression of the demand for modern enlightenment.It is also through disease writing to reflect on the "radical" social situation caused by the excessive release of desire and the lack of corresponding values,rules and humanistic care,hoping to treat society and individuals through "resistance",so as to find the meaning and value oflife.As a microcosm of the process of China’s modernization,the countryside shows the "radical" situation of China’s modernization more centrally and prominently.Yan Lianke’s disease writing shows the violence of rural power and the distortion of rural economic form caused by the pursuit of modernization in the process of "radical" modernization.At the same time,due to the poverty and backwardness of rural areas,as well as the marginalization of rural areas in the process of China’s modernization,the gap between rural areas and cities is gradually widening,and the form of "fracture" between urban and rural areas appears.Chinese villages are always in an unbalanced and unequal position.As a result,rural writing gradually shows the phenomenon of collapse and anxiety,which has become one of the characteristics of Yan Lianke’s disease writing.
