A Critical Explication Of T. Carver’s Edition Of The German Ideology

Terrell Carver,well-known internationally,is a Western Marxology.He has focused on the German Ideology in recent years.In 2014,he published a contextual edition of the German Ideolog(called the Carver’s edition of the German Ideolog below),and thinks it as a scientific edition.The Carver’s edition of the German Ideolog is based on the Marx-Engels-Jahrbuch 2003.Its punctuation and capitalization are in conformity with English usage,but the transcription of the German manuscript is also taken into account as much as possible.Besides,roman typeface and bold typeface represent respectively Engels’s handwriting and Marx’s handwriting.The political history of editions is a guiding principle of its methodology on the study and shows us the political ideology behind those editions.Therefore,the political unconsciousness leads Carver to advocate the editorial principle of depolitical ideology while editing the manuscripts,which however reflects certain political ideology.In general,from the perspective of the political history of the editions,the German ideology has gone through a historical process from the Marxism field to the non-Marxism field and the German ideology as a work has been constructed politically.The history is "a very complex history of editorial competition and political antagonism".As a result,in order to avoid subjectively and willfully edit the manuscripts,the Carver’s edition of the German Ideology is reproduced through two page layout and in a chronological order.Beside,it denies the existence of a book named the German Ideology,whether as a real work or as a plan and is regarded as a collection.However,a chronological order not only has been applied for along time,but also makes a series of problems remain to be answered;a collection is also an old opinion and leads to deconstruct traditional image of Marx,even deconstruct Marxism.Consequently,to edit those manuscripts depolitically,on the surface,the principle of chronological order and the scientific editing scheme of objective neutrality are indeed the only way of editing Carver’s edition of the German Ideology;a collection is said to be presented as a natural result and the attitude of difference towards the "Marx-Engels Relationship"is the embodiment of the application of Carver’s edition of the German Ideology.But,fundamentally speaking,Carver’s edition of the German Ideology disintegrates Historical Materialism and deconstructs revolutionary Marx.In addition,it also judges the Marxism of scientific communism as the humanitarian Marxism.Together with the publishment of MEGA2 I/5 in 2017,there exists a more focus on MEGA in the field of Marxism.Taking those into account,we have to lay an emphasis on Archimedes point of theoretical research.That’s,domestic Marxism philosophy research,especially the study of the German Ideology must be carried out within the scientific standpoint of Marxism;When learning from new documents,relevant researchers must have confidence,be firm in the scientific stance of Marxism,and never forget the original intention,lose direction and fear the future.Only in this way can Chinese Marxism philosophy in the 21st century have a solid foundation and lead the Chinese nation to create a more glorious and new era.
