| Dialects and accents are major components of language studies.Regional factors of a language can make up for the deficiency of the language in space and time, and diachronic characteristics of the language. Therefore,in order to truly understand a language,it’s necessary to conduct an in-depth study about dialects and accents of the language. The subject of this paper is Darya Boyi vernacular which is a particular dialect spoken by Derya Boyi Uyghurs living in the 250 kilometers inner part of the Taklimakan Desert. It is considered as a branch of Khotan dialect in modern Uyghur. But until now,any comprehensive field research or systematic linguistic description on this vernacular has not been carried out. Now,its special traits are vanishing under the effects of school education,radio-television broadcasting and other surrounding local accents. Therefore,it is extremely important to take records and characterize the local variants at this critical moment.First,in order to find out the vernacular vocabularies and their traits which are different from the Standard Uyghur,in terms of vocabulary,288 vernacular vocabularies were collected by conducting the field research and investigations.Second,by analyzing the collected vernacular words in synchronic and diachronic ways,it has been discovered that Derya Boyi vernacular vocabularies demonstrate the following features. In terms of semantics:(1)Derya Boyi vernacular has some allo-graphic synonyms. The type of synonyms have equivalent words in the Standard Uyghur and they are semantically the same but phonetically different with equvalanet words in Standard Uyghur.(2)Derya Boyi vernacular has some homonyms. This kind of words also have equievalnt words in Standard Uyghur and they are phonetically the same but indicate different things or show different applications.(3)Derya Boyi vernacular has some unique words and these unique words can be divided into three types:(1.The innovative words. These words can’t be found in the Standard Uyghur and they are created by the local people during their daily life and production.(2.The inherited words. These words are the Ancient Uyghur words which are still being used by Derya Boyi people but aren’t used in Standard Uyghur(3.The Chinese loanwords. These loanwords neither can be found nor aren’t totally used in Standard Uyghur. In terms of source:(1)from the perspectives of the cultural source, most of the vernacular words can be found in the closest fields of locals’ daily lives. For instance, the vernacular words which are related with category of daily life are 71 words(26%of the collected vernacular words),words related with character and feelings are 36(12.5%),words related with humanity and actions are 45 words(15.6% of the collected vernacular words),words related with herdsmenship and farming are 35words(12%).(2)The vernacular words come from different word classes and most of them are nouns which account for 193 of the words(67%).Except from nouns, there are also 29 verbs(10%),35 adjectives(12%)and others. In terms of internal structure: vocabularies in Derya Boyi vernacular demonstrate phonetic features such as(1)sound alternations,(2)adding,(3)dropping,(4)transposition.This paper is consisted of three parts, namely: introduction, major body and conclusion.Introduction part, chapter one, includes the background of Darya Boyi vernacular voucabulary study and the research significans.Part two,is composed of three chapters, chapter two, tries to display the thesis’ theoretical basis, definitions of related terms and the limitations of the previous studies on Derya Boyi vernacular. In chapter three, the thesis talks about the research methodology. In chapter four, the main focus is summarizing the vernacular words and discussing their features.Part three, chapter five, involves the brief conclusion on the solved and existing problems of this paper as well as the suggestions for the future researches on this vernacular. |
