Research On Animal Images In Contemporary European And American Films-under The Perspective Of Visual Culture

Since the 1990s,American movies gush out a large number of animal images,perform the primitive scene of thousands animal dancing together.The animal images appear different traits in visual display,represent genre,narrative function and significance of theme from before.In first chapter,we discussed the visual display of animal in contemporary Europe and American films through the view of visual culture theory.In the virtual world scene of postmodern,animals always be represented as agent of nature,symbol of irrationality,and visual spectacle.As a kind of culture symbol and commodity producing,animal,together with nature and body,becomes the original resources which human being continue exploring.Chapter two,we classified the animal images in contemporary Europe and American films according to theories about visual culture,grouped them into imitation,representation and simulacrum according to their representation types.Image of virtual animal of simulacrum is becoming more and more popular in contemporary films.Chapter three,we analyzed the culture logic which animal images be represented in the view of modernity theory.In the process of premodern,modern and post-modern development,The relationship between human and animal,showing a logical relationship from the same to the opposition,and then to a unified.The fourth chapter,we analyzes the significance of animal images in contemporary American and European movies.The production of animal image is a business strategy movies pursuing to visual effect and high box office,which is in accordance with the logic of capital.Animal images possess complex and profound aesthetic implication,represented "the call of the wild" and "returning to the unity of all things of creation" that modern people desire to.According to analysis of topic above we draw the conclusion:the amounts of gushing of animal images in contemporary Europe and American films,is one kind of strategy of producing movies,and the spontaneous result of contemporary crisis of ecology,also the unconscious revolt to the worship of instrumental rationality,the superstition of science and technology,and the logic of capital.After all,the animals,bodies,machines,and nature showed in the films are the producing of desires,which were used for meeting modern people who always continue to pursue new sensual pleasure and life experience.
