English course is of great importance for secondary vocational school students,not only because it is a language communication tool for human beings,but also because in modern society of economic globalization,people who has a good mastery of English,and can skillfully complete the task of English listening,speaking,reading and writing will own a broader platform for their all-round development.However,as a compulsory subject in the secondary vocational school,English teaching tends to give more priority to the trainings of reading and writing abilities,therefore,the trainings of English listening and speaking have been largely ignored in daily learning.Even though the trainings of English listening and speaking sometimes are covered in a few leanings,they are always placed in a subordinate position throughout English learning.In order to enhance secondary vocational school students’ English listening and speaking abilities,and improve English teaching for secondary vocational education,schools are encouraged to introduce some well-chosen English films and videos as teaching aids for English courses,through which to arouse students’ enthusiasm for English learning,develop the habit of"enjoying listening and being good at speaking" for English learners,and give full play to sensory perception for English teaching.In addition,vivid and native language environment in English films and videos can better help students improve their language skills with a targeted and well-organized plan.Also,English films and videos introduced should be adaptable to the features of secondary vocational English teaching.Specifically,the content of it should be rich and positive,and the language of it should be formal and easy to understand.Taking English listening and speaking teaching for secondary vocational students as a breakthrough point,the author of the essay fully uses the professional knowledge during the graduate study to consult a large number of research data on the field.Based on the constructivism learning theory and the relevant theory of Krashen who is the famous American language educators,the author conducts a further analysis and research focused on the applications of the English films and videos to secondary vocational English teaching.In addition,the author makes full use of the questionnaire method to gain numerous firsthand information on this issue,and provides some valuable theoretical achievements and principles as supporting evidence from the following three perspectives:firstly,the roles of film and video appreciation in English listening and speaking teaching;secondly,the implementation strategies of their application in English teaching;and finally,how to make the English film and video appreciation effectively improve the practical English listening and speaking teaching for secondary vocational schools.
