A Research On The Age Characteristics Of The Relationship Between Time Perspective And Temporal Discounting

Time perspective is an important part of the time personality,it is a relatively stable psychological and behavioral characteristic.Time perspective is not only refers to the individual’s understanding of time,and the understanding of time is the basis for generating the action or behavioral tendencies.Past time perspective,present time perspective and future time perspective are important part of the time perspective.The individual experience of the past and expectations of what will happen in the future will have an impact on their current choices.Temporal discounting is a psychological phenomenon which the value of event decreases as time,it’s also the important component of behavioral choice theory.The past and present experience affect individual’s decisions of the future.At the same time,with the growth of age,time perspective and temporal discounting will be changed.Therefore,this research participants include 12-14 teenagers and early individuals aged 18-20,to explore age characteristics of the relationship between time perspective and temporal discounting.In this study,a total of 739 people,494 of the 12-14 teenagers,475 early adulthood individuals aged 18-20.Zimbardo’s time perspective inventory which has been translated in Chinese is used to measure time perspective.It has good reliability and validity.Temporal discounting task is always used to research the temporal discounting.The results are as follows:(1)In addition to future time perspective,the past time perspective and present time perspective will change with the growth of the age.(2)The time discount rate for the early adult population of 18-20 is now divided into three segments in the next 50 years: the near future,the far future and the distant future.The time discount rate of 12-14 years old was steeper than that of the early adult population of 18-20 years..(3)With the increase of age,the relationship between time perspective and temporal discounting changes.(1)The past-negative,past-positive and present-hedonistic perspective of 12-14 teenagers’ scores of high and low levels on time discount rate trend,the change trend of the time discount rate of the early age group of 18-20 years of age does not change.(2)High and low present-hedonistic time perspective groups’ tendency of temporal discounting rate changes consistent.Future time perspective has the similar result.
