This paper is a review of the study on interpretation teaching and training in Chinese mainland from 1996 to 2010 so as to sort out the major research subjects in this field as well as the new trends of the future research in the hope of shedding some light on the future interpreting teaching study.This paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction including the research background, research questions, the methodology and the design of the paper. After the introduction to this paper, the second chapter is the core part of the thesis. In this part, the author tries to classify the interpreting teaching study in china (1996-2010) into six categories according to the subjects of the study. By analyzing and synthesizing the characteristics of those subjects, later in chapter three the new trends of future interpreting teaching study in china will be predicted after the systematic collection of the previous thoughts. The last chapter will be an overall conclusion of the research on interpreting teaching study from 1996 to 2010 in china, including the major findings, implications and possible defects of this dissertation.With comparative analysis based on the 138 papers produced from the year 1996 to 2010 found in the core journal catalog of CNKI using“interpreting teaching”as the key words of the content, the author of this paper classifies these sample theses and related books by the research subjects and comes up with the theory that current domestic interpreting teaching research can be classified into 6 categories: The study on interpreting competence and language competence; the study on connections between translating teaching and interpreting teaching; the study on the status of consecutive interpreting in interpreting teaching; the study on curriculum design and arrangements; the study on interpreting skills in teaching and the study on professionalism in interpreting and interpreting teaching.The author also does a statistical research on the different research subjects of the above mentioned 138 papers and it turns out that the number of the articles on the following three subjects increases rapidly: a. the research on the market and innovation oriented teaching model; b. the application of information technology to interpreting teaching; c. interdisciplinary research in interpreting teaching. This shows that the researches on the above mentioned three subjects gradually become the new trends in interpreting teaching research.This paper serves as the replenishment of domestic theoretical study frame of interpreting teaching and it helps push forward the systematic development of interpreting industry. Hopefully, it can make some contributions to the cultivation of qualified interpreters.
