| Objective: To study the pregnancy experience of women undergoing fetoscopic surgery due to twin-twin transfusion syndrome and the factors affecting their emotional reaction during pregnancy,and help clinicians understand the pregnancy experience of such women from the psychological dimension,so as to explore some ways which could improve their pregnancy experience.Methods: This study is a qualitative study.From June 2019 to November 2020,women who underwent fetoscopic surgery due to twin-twin transfusion syndrome were selected from the Department of Obstetrics,Shengjing Hospital affiliated to China Medical University purpose sampling.Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection and Colaizzi method was used for data analysis.Results: A total of 16 women were included.After analyzing the collected data,3 themes about pregnancy experience of these women were extracted.Theme 1 Emotional reaction during pregnancy,including 8 sub-themes:(1)uneasy previous pregnancy experience;(2)shock and sadness at diagnosis;(3)helplessness of referral;(4)stress before treatment;(5)uncertainty about pregnancy outcome;(6)the grief of losing fetus;(7)economic pressure and professional pressure;(8)exhaustion caused by review.Theme 2 Influencing factors of emotional reaction,including 4 sub-themes:(1)fetal health;(2)lack of professional referral procedures;(3)lack of disease information;(4)peer support.Theme 3 The adjustment of emotional reaction,including two sub-themes:(1)rationalization of misfortune;(2)avoidance of stressors.Conclusion: Twin-twin transfusion syndrome can cause long-term adverse effects on women’s mental health.Medical staff should pay attention to their mental health and establish a psychological support and information support system based on their emotional reaction characteristics to reduce their adverse emotional reactions during pregnancy and improve their pregnancy experience. |
