Purpose: The efficacy and safety of percutaneous closure of PFO(patent foramen ovale,PFO)in preventing recurrence of stroke in CS(cryptogenic stroke,CS)patients with PFO are still controversial. This article intends to discuss the mid-term efficacy of percutaneous closure of PFO for cryptogenic stroke patients with PFO.Methods: A total of 76 CS patients with PFO who were diagnosed by routine examinations such as imageological examination, transesophageal encocardiography, and contrast echocardiography of right heart in our hospital were selected.According to the difference of treatment plan, they were divided into the study group(48 cases)and the control group(28 cases),the study group were received percutaneous closure of PFO(Amplatzer occluder device plus short-term antiplatelet therapy),and the control group received continuous antiplatelet therapy.Follow up and compare of the recurrence of CS after treatment in the two groups. Results: All 48 patients in the study group were successfully operated without pericardial effusion, pericardial tamponade, hematoma at the puncture site, femoral arteriovenous fistula, arrhythmia, and valve insufficiency. The study group underwent cardiac color doppler ultrasound and electrocardiogram at 1 month,6 months,1 year, and 2 years after operation. No residual atrial shunt, venous thrombosis, occluder device displacement or shedding were observed. The average follow-up time was 18 months. There was no significant difference of the follow-up time and baseline data between the two groups. No serious adverse events were observed in either group.Comparing the recurrence of stroke between the two groups,2 patients in the study group and 6 patients in the control group relased.and the difference was statistically significant(2/48 vs 6/28,P<0.05)(4.17% VS 21.43%,P<0.05).Conclusion: Percutaneous closure of PFO can effectively prevent the recurrence of stroke in CS patients with PFO without obvious adverse events, which has clinical application value.
