AimsTo investigate the prevalence status of atrial fibrillation in elderly care institutions in the main urban area of Chongqing.MethodsA total of 1,049 elderly people who were living in two Nursing institutions in Chongqing were selected and single-lead electrocardiograph was used to conduct ECG examination.Non-atrial fibrillation patients’and atrial fibrillation patients’basic characteristics were analyzed. The patients with atrial fibrillation were assessed with CHA2DS2-VASc score, the atrial fibrillation symptom score and the HAS-BLED score.Follow up them for 3months to realize the use of anticoagulants and its adverse reactions.ResultsOf the 1,049 elderly patients,66 patients(6.3%)were diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, including 25 patients(2.4%)who were first diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and 41 patients(3.9%)who were not first diagnosed,983(93.7%)were diagnosed with non-atrial fibrillation; There were no statistically significant differences in the prevalence of atrial fibrillation among the elderly of different genders and ages(P>0.05,both).Of the 66 patients with ATRIAL fibrillation,64 were assessed as having a high risk of embolism by the CHA2DS2-VASC score, and 9 were assessed as having a high risk of bleeding by the HAS-BLED score. In the end,the rate of anticoagulation therapy increased from 16.7%at baseline to 40.9%.ConclusionsThe prevalence of atrial fibrillation in elderly care institutions in the main urban area of Chongqing was high and the treatment rate was low.The treatment of atrial fibrillation in the elderly can be benefited by the approach of atrial fibrillation screening and atrial fibrillation follow-up.
