Triple-negative breast cancer, colon adenocarcinoma, ovarian cancer and glioblastoma multiforme are four common malignant tumors,in which significant challenges are still faced in early diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Therefore, further identification of genes related to those malignant tumors is of great important for the improvement of management of the diseases. In this study, the data of the gene expression profile was derived from the database of NCBI,GEO.MRMR(maximal relevance and minimal redundancy)was used to select significant genes highly related to malignant tumors.Specific genes related to malignant tumors were identified by the algorithm of shortest path tracing in a PPI(protein-protein interaction)network.Finally,20 genes were selected as potential specific genes for each malignant tumor. It is demonstrated that such genes found above in this study indeed play important roles in the differentiation of the 4 types of malignant tumors.Among the specific genes found in this study, some genes are reported as related genes to these four malignancies in the literature(such as EGFR,EP300,PPP2 CA,CBL,etc.),indicating that the computational methods used in this study are effective. However, some other genes(such as DPM1,PPP1 CB,SNCA,HCFC1,etc.)are rarely reported in the literature as being associated with these four malignancies. It can be expected from the analysis that they may be new genes associated with the four tumors, providing a basis for future experimental biological validation.Further, the GO(Gene Ontology)enrichment analysis and the KEGG(Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes)enrichment analysis were performed on the potential specific genes. The similarities and differences of the four types of malignant tumors were explored through analysis and comparison. It is found that there are some similarities in the biological characteristics of the four malignant tumors.Nuclear transport plays an important role in the biological processes of the four malignant tumors, and the transport of the four malignant tumors is related to the adhesion molecules.Meanwhile, there are some differences between these malignant tumors. For example,E.coli may have an important impact on the pathogenesis of colon cancer.DNA content in the nucleus is an important factor affecting the prognosis of ovarian cancer.Phosphatidylinositol plays an important role in the development of triple-negative breast cancer. In addition, using the potential genes related to malignant tumors found above in this study as features,a support vector machine model was developed to predict the four malignant tumors. As a result, the prediction accuracy reached more than 97%,indicating that such a model can effectively predict the 4 types of malignant tumors.
