Objective: To investigate the clinical value of video electroencephalogram(V-EEG)background electroencephalogram and stage Ⅱ non-rapid eye movement sleep electroencephalogram in the diagnosis and prognosis of acute cerebral infarction patients with consciousness disorderMethods: Patients with acute cerebral infarction disorder of consciousness were assessed with Coma Recovery Scale(CRS-R)score and video electroencephalogram within one week. The CRS-R score was repeated three times and the highest score was used. The EEG was placed with disc electrodes according to the international 10-20 system, and 19 lead signals were recorded. The EEG was recorded and the clinical status of the patient was monitored by video. The follow-up was followed up again after 3 months and the CRS-R score was performed again. Results: A total of 33 patients with acute cerebral infarction met the inclusion criteria, including 19 patients with vegetative state and 14 patients with minimum conscious state after CRS-R score. The background EEG of the minimal-conscious state patients under eye opening was fast wave with frequency greater than 8Hz in 11 cases, and that of the vegetative state patients under eye opening was slow wave with frequency less than 8Hz in 15 cases. Background The frequency of electroencephalogram(EEG)can be used to diagnose patients with consciousness disorder as minimum consciousness state or vegetative state.NREM Ⅱ EEG was found in 10 patients with minimal conscious state under closed eyes, and NREM Ⅱ EEG in 2 patients with vegetative state under closed eyes.NREM Ⅱ EEG in closed eyes can diagnose the type of disturbance of consciousness. After 3 months of follow-up found in 3 patients with minimally conscious state and 2 cases of patients has improved, the frequency of the background EEG and NREM Ⅱ EEG are not predictive of prognosis in minimally conscious patients,However, the frequency of background EEG in patients with vegetative state and NREM Ⅱ EEG can be evaluated. Conclusions: Background Electroencephalogram frequency is related to the strength of neurons in the brain tissue, fast wave is the frequency generated by the normal brain tissue, slow wave is generated by the site of cerebral infarction or brain edema.Sleep electroencephalography(EEG)is associated with the thalamocortical circuitry that reflects the brain’s ability to sleep and wake. The research shows that video EEG can reflect the brain function of patients with consciousness disorder in combination with the clinical status. Background EEG and sleep EEG can diagnose the type of patients with consciousness disorder, and can also evaluate the prognosis of patients with vegetative state, providing guidance for the treatment of patients with consciousness disorder in acute cerebral infarction.
