BackgroundChina is now entering an aging society, while stroke is a common chronic disease for the elderly, with high fatality and disability rates.Patients need a long recovery process after illness and psychological problems such as anxiety and depression will gradually appear, which cause great burden to patients, families and the whole society.Positive psychology studies have found that disease can also bring benefit finding to patients and this kind of psychological capital enables patients to actively adapt to the disease state and improve the quality of life.It urgently needs to be studied whether there is benefit finding in elderly stroke patients, and what factors will affect its level.ObjectiveInvestigate the positive psychological experience of elderly stroke patients, investigate the current status of benefit finding of elderly stroke patients, analyze its influencing factors, and provide a new perspective for medical staff in the psychological care of stroke patients.ResearchThis is a cross-sectional study, which adopts the combination of quantitative and qualitative mixed research methods.1.Quantitative research is used to investigate the current status of benefit finding and influencing factors of stroke patients.183 stroke patients who were selected by Convenience sampling as the research objects. They were elderly stroke patients in the neurology department of a tertiary A hospital in a city from September 2019 to August2020.The general information questionnaire, chronic disease patient benefit discovery questionnaire,Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS),General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES),Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire(MCMQ),Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale(HADS),Stroke Specialized Quality of Life Scale(SS-Qo L)were used to investigate.2.Phenomenological research is used to explore the true experience of benefit finding of elderly stroke patients.Guided by phenomenological method and based on the principle of data saturation,14 patients were selected for semi-structured in-depth interviews.Colaizzi’s data analysis method is adopted to summarize and sort out the characteristics of benefit finding of elderly stroke patients.Result1.The patient’s benefit finding scored high, with a total score of 97.47±17.64.The scores of self-efficacy,perceived social support, medical coping style, anxiety, depression, and quality of life were respectively 23.62±5.34,60.57±12.99,43.28±8.01,6.78±4.43,6.97±4.51,172.22±40.26.2.The results of difference comparison demonstrated that there are statistically significant differences in marital status, presence or absence of children, occupation, presence or absence of family history, daily exercise time, comorbid diseases and main caregiver between the level of patient’s benefit finding.3.The results of Spearman correlation analysis showed that self-efficacy,avoiding,yielding,anxiety and depression had significantly negative correlation with benefit finding(P<0.05),while the support within family, the support outside family, facing, and quality of life had significantly positive correlation with benefit finding(P<0.05).4.The results of multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that support within family was positively correlated with benefit finding, while yielding, anxiety and self-efficacy were negatively correlated with benefit finding, and the results were statistically significant(P<0.05).5.In the process of coping with the disease, stroke patients can experience the benefit finding. It manifested as respecting for life and cherishing time;personal growth(enriching medical knowledge, adjusting mentality, and improving lifestyle);perceiving social support and a sense of social value. The patient’s experience of benefit finding is similar to that of cancer and chronic diseases of the elderly, however it has its own characteristics.ConclusionStroke patients have benefit finding with higher level. The influencing factors include,Marital status,occupation,self-efficacy,social support, coping style, anxiety.
