| Objectives:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of maxillary skeletal expander(MSE)in the treatment of maxillary transverse deficiency in lateadolescents using cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT)with detecting the buccal maxillary width(BMW),the width of the alveolar base bone,the palatal apical width of the first molar,the amount of sutural expansion,the amount of MSE appliance expansion,and the fist molar angle of the patients before and after treatment to provide the reference for the formulation of clinical treatment plan.Methods:15 patients(mean age:17.1± 1.6 years)with maxillary transversedeficiency and during the post-pubertal growth spurt stage from the Orthodontics Department of Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Kunming Medical University were selected,they were received the treatment of MSE.Detecting the buccal maxillary width(BMW),the width of the alveolar base bone,the palatal apical width of the first molar,the amount of sutural expansion,the amount of MSE appliance expansion,and the fist molar angle of the patients before and after treatment with CBCT,calculating the percentage of alveolar bone bending amount to analyzing and evaluating the clinical efficacy of maxillary skeletal expander(MSE).Results:1、MSE obviously expanded the middle palatal suture,the expansion ofthe middle palatal suture at the level of maxillary incisor,canine,first premolar and first molar respectively are 3.08±0.96mm,3.18±0.2mm,3.40±0.98mm,3.50± 1.04mm.In incisor,canine,first premolar and first molar,the percentage of alveolar bone bending amount are 61%,63%,68%,70%.2、CBCT measurements showed that palatal suture expansion was different in different dental positions,but there was no significant statistical difference between the two groups(P>0.05),which was basically parallel to the anterior and posterior opening.3、before and after treatment,the first molar Angle was slightly increased,there was no was significant statistical difference(P>0,05).4、after treatment,the buccal maxillary width(BMW),the width of the alveolar base bone,the palatal apical width of the first molar significant increased,with an average increase respectively are 4.79±1.34mm,4.53±1.44mm,and 5.47±3.02mm.The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:the application of MSE technology treatment of maxillary transverse deficiency in lateadolescents can effectively open the midpalatal suture width,the percentage of alveolar bone bending amount are70%,and sagittal basic parallel to open,to be effective to increase the maxillary width,solve the mandibular width is not harmonious,effectively control the torque of first molar. |
