The Prevalence And Serious Situation Of Enamel Demineralization And Remineralization Related To Fixed Orthodontic Treatment: A Restrospective Clinical Research

Aim:To study the prevelence and severity of enamel demineralization related to fixed orthodontic treatment retrospectively,tentatively discussing the long-term self-regression of enamel demineralization lesions after the completion of the orthodontic treatment and to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of enamel demineralization related to the clinical fixed orthodontic treatment.Materials and Methods:The clearely oral photos of 90 patients who has finished fixed orthodontic treatment and maintained for two years were clected in this clinical trial.Observe and recored the decayed-missing-filled(DMF),the white spot lesions(WSLs),and the enamel demineralization index(EDI)of the teeth between maxillary bilateral second premolar teeth at the beginning,the end,and two years after the orthodontic treatment.Caculate the decayed-missing-filled-teeth(DMFT),the prevalence rate and the severity of enamel demineralization;Caculate the rate of different quadrant of the lip-buccal teeth surface and the rate of different enamel demineralization degree of all the demineralization lesions.Statistical analysis was played and P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:(1)The prevalence rate and severity of the enamel demineralization during T0,T1 and T2 showed a trend of increasing at first and then decreasing after,and the prevalence rate of each time point was T0(46.11%),T1(64.89%),T2(53.03%)especially,there were significant differences among the three groups;(2)Of all the WSLs lesions of the examined teeth,more than 83% was mild demineralization in the matter of demineralization degrees,and about 45% of the lesions were located at the gingival side of the bracket in the matter of demineralization regions,there was no difference of the enamel demineralization rate and severity brtween the left and right side;(3)31.3% of the enamel demineralization lesions could self-repair to varying degrees due to remineralization two years after the treatment.Conclusions:The prevalence of enamel demineralization associated with orthodontic fixed treatment was very high and the lesions affect the aesthetic and health of patients.Although some mild enamel demineralization may happen remineralization at different degrees after the orthodontic treatment,the prevention of enamel demineralization was still the most important thing to do for both of the doctors and patients.
