Objective: To summarize the relevant factors leading to death for 130 inpatients with connective tissue diseases(CTDs)in Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College nearly 11 years,so as to improve survival rate and prognosis by attaching more attention to the causes of death. Methods: A retrospective review was performed in 130 CTDs inpatients in our hospital from June 2009 to December 2020.The causes of death was classified according to the activity of the disease itself, infection, comorbidities and other factors. We summarized the composition of primary diseases of death, distribution of causes of death, the relationship between gender, course of disease, complications and composition of causes of death and survival condition according to analyzing the death relevant factors. Results: 1.In our hospital from June 2009 to December 2020,8296 CTDs patients were hospitalized, the number of deaths was 130.In 130 inpatients with CTDs,37 were male and 93 were female. The ratio between male and female was 1:2.5.The age of death between 130 inpatients with CTDs ranged from 13 to 89 years;average age of diagnosis was54.4 ± 19.7;average age of death was 60.3 ± 19.1;the median course was24.0 months, and the inter-quartile range was 5.0~96.0 months.2.The three most common diseases in the proportion of primary diseases of death in our hospital were systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)(26.9%),rheumatoid arthritis(RA)(19.2%)and primary Sjogren’s syndrome(p SS)(19.2%).The overall hospital mortality was 15.7 ‰.In all CTDs cases, the hospital mortality was the highest in patients with overlap syndrome(OCTD)(5.9%),followed by anti-synthase syndrome(ASS)(5.7%)and adult Still’s disease(AOSD)(4.0%).The three most common comorbidities of CTDs were infection(77.6%),hypertension(33.0%)and pulmonary interstitial disease(ILD)(24.6%).3.The three most common causes of death in hospitalized patients with CTDs in our hospital were: disease activity(43.2%),infection(31.0%),comorbidities(24.0%).The four major causes of death in hospitalized patients with SLE were infection(25.0%),lupus nephritis(11.8%),neuropsychiatric lupus(11.8%)and lupus hematological damage(11.8%).The main cause of death in hospitalized patients with RA was comorbidities(47.1%).4.The proportion of death caused by the activity of the disease itself decreased with the increase of age, while the proportion of death caused by comorbidities increased with the prolongation of disease course.5.Gender,age at diagnosis and primary disease are factors affecting the prognosis of patients. Conclusions: 1.SLE,RA,and p SS were the most common diseases that died, and the diseases with higher hospital mortality were OCTD,ASS and AOSD.2.Comorbidities,infection and disease activity are the main causes of death in hospitalized patients with CTDs in our hospital.Infection, lupus nephritis, neuropsychiatric lupus and lupus hematological damage are the four major causes of death in hospitalized patients with SLE in our hospital;comorbidities are the main cause of death in hospitalized patients with RA.3.Gender,age at diagnosis and primary disease were factors affecting the prognosis of patients.
