Objective: To explore the risk factors of restless legs syndrome(RLS)in End Stage Renal Disease patients undergoing hemodialysis and the influence of RLS on the quality of patients’ lives,in order to understand and to improve the level of the clinical prevention and treatment of the disease. Methods: Patients undergoing long-term hemodialysis in the dialysis unit of our hospital from July 2016 to October 2016 were enrolled in our study. The demographic data, the questionnaires and blood test results of patients were collected.According to the minimum diagnostic criteria of the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group(IRLSSG),patients were separated in to ESRD with RLS group and ESRD without RLS group.T-test,Mann-Whitney U test and chi-square test were applied to the univariate analyses. The multivariable backward logistic regression model was applied to estimate the risk factors and odd ratios. Results: 137 ESRD patients were included in our study. The prevalence of RLS among the ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis was 20.44%.The risk of RLS in ESRD patients was increased significantly in female(OR= 2.729,p= 0.032)and the daily alcohol intake(OR=4.716,p= 0.022).The exsitence of RLS increased the proportion of sleep disdorders(73,67.0% vs 25,89.3%,p= 0.02)and sedativehypnotics intake(10,9.2% vs 7,25.0%,p= 0.047)and impaired the sleep quality(7 vs 11,p= 0.001)according to PSQI sumscores. Conclusion: A high RLS prevalence were confirmed among the ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis. The risk of RLS was markedly increased in females and alcohol users. The sleep quality was significantly impaired and sleeping medication use was more often among the ESRD patients with RLS.
