Feline stomatitis is a common feline medical condition in veterinary practice, caused by an infection or lesion in the oral cavity, resulting in inflammation of the superficial oral mucosa or deeper tissues of the mouth. There are many factors that can cause stomatitis in cats, including diet, oral hygiene, hereditary factors and systemic infectious diseases.Clinical manifestations include difficulty in feeding, salivation, chewing disorders, flushing and swelling of the oral mucosa, and unpleasant exhaled breath, etc. In severe cases, symptoms such as vesicles and ulcers may be present. With the increase in the number of domestic pet cats and stray cats in recent years, the number of cases of cat stomatitis has also increased.Bacterial and viral infections are the most common clinical causes, and there are regional differences in the epidemiology of these two causes,so studying the causes and incidence of stomatitis in a particular region is essential for the prevention and treatment of stomatitis in the future. This study therefore focuses on the viruses and bacteria that cause cat stomatitis.A total of 326 clinical case samples of cat stomatitis from 23 pet hospitals in Qingdao were collected from December 2019 to November 2020,and these case samples were further analysed and tested according to the corresponding laboratory tests based on clinical symptoms. The data were statistically analysed according to six aspects of the clinical cases, including season, age, sex, immune status, breeding environment and breed, and correlations between the main viral sources of infection(FCV,FHV)and bacterial infection factors in the clinical cases of feline stomatitis were analysed using SPSS 20.0 software. This was used to provide a practical basis for the prevalence and clinical management of feline stomatitis in Qingdao. The analysis showed that of the 326 cases of feline stomatitis in Qingdao,79 cases(24.23%)were infected with feline culexvirus,87 cases(26.69%)were infected with feline herpesvirus,117 cases(35.89%)were infected with a combination of feline herpesvirus and feline culexvirus, and 43 cases(13.19%)were not detected with a clear type of infection. The number of cases with other undetected types of infection was 43,accounting for about 13.19%.Among the cases of feline stomatitis prevalent in Qingdao, there were no significant seasonal differences in the incidence of FCV and FHV infections;although there were no significant differences in the age distribution of the various types of infections, the incidence of feline stomatitis cases was mostly found in adult cats, and the age of onset was mainly between 1.5and 8 years;the incidence of FCV,FHV and mixed infections did not differ significantly from the gender of the affected cats;and the incidence of FCV,FHV and mixed infections did not differ significantly from the gender of the affected cats. The incidence of FCV,FHV and mixed infections did not differ significantly by sex;the incidence of FCV,FHV and mixed infections differed from the immune status of the affected cats;the incidence of FCV,FHV and mixed infections differed significantly from the housing environment of the affected cats, and the incidence of FCV,FHV and mixed infections did not differ significantly from the breed of the affected cats.
