Abstract/Summary:
Bactrocera dorsalis(Hendel)is the most significant pest in southern China belonging to Diptera Tephritidae, which can cause serious damage to more than 450 species of vegetables and fruits. At present, attractant products of male B.dorsalis are still widely used in fields for biological control. However, because of the ability to mate of the male and female B.dorsalis remains unclear,it is not possible to conduct scientific evaluation on its actual effect. In order to lay a foudation for accurate evaluation of the effect of methyl eugenol in fields, this thesis systematically studied the mating ability and reproduction fitness of B.dorsalis.The main results are as follows:(1)Both male and female adults of B.dorsalis had the ability to mate multiple times, and the mating ability of males was stronger than females.Males could mate 11 times on average within their lifetime, and they could mate 26 times at maximum.Males had a strong ability to mate continuously. They could mate 11 times at maximum, and the first 9 matings could make the females produce a certain number of offsprings.Females mated 1.54±0.09 and 1.93±0.12 times in monogamy and polyandry systems, respectively. The egg hatching rate of females which mated twice in different modes was significantly higher than that of females which mated once.(2)The mating rate of B.dorsalis adults was significantly correlated with the temperature, light intensity and the ratio of sugar and yeast extract in diet. With the increase of temperature, the mating rate increased firstly and then decreased. At 25℃,the mating rate reached the highest of53.33%±2.31%.The mating of the adults required certain light, and they can not complete the mating under dark conditions. The mating rate of male and female B.dorsalis adults increased with the increase of the proportion of yeast in the diet. When sugar:yeast=7:3,the mating rate of male and female adults was the highest, which was 43.33%±4.41%and62.50%±1.44%,respectively.B.dorsalis mating duration was significantly related to temperature and light intensity. The mating duration decreased with the increase of temperature, and the mating duration was the shortest at35℃.With light of 1000 Lux,the mating duration was significantly shorter than other treatments.(3)When face the courtship of males,B.dorsalis females of don’t want to mate will show the obvious behavior of rejection mating, including kicking, running, jumping, and supinated.Their behavior of rejection mating is significantly related to the age of females, the 10-day-old females showed the most rejection behavior. The refusing mating of females was also related to the time since their last mating. The rejection behavior of females in the treatment of remating after 5 days interval was significantly higher than other treatments.(4)The mating refusal behavior of the females of B.dorsalis was related to the mating history of males and male-biased of sex ratio. The mating rate of mating once male and mating once female was 46.91%±3.09%,which was significantly higher than mating rate thatvirgin male and mating once female, which was 36.11%±2.03%.Under the male-biased of sex ratio(2♂:1♀and 3♂:1♀),the remating rate of mating once females was46.67%±1.67%and 48.33%±1.67%,respectively,which was significantly higher than mating rate with under 1♂:1♀(36.11%±2.0%).(5)Compared with the fecundity(569.36±69.31)and hatching rate of eggs(70.21±3.68%)of females which mated once, the fecundity(766.81±57.74)and hatching rate of eggs(81.36±1.72%)of females which remated at the third week were significantly higher.(6)Delayed mating had a significant negative effect on the fecundity of females and hatching rate of egg B.dorsalis.The regression equation of fecundity(Y)was Y=514.36+3.08X1-11.05X2(X1:the age of a male;X2:the age of a female).Fecundity decreased with delay mating of days of females. The egg hatching rate decreased with delay mating of days of males.
