In order to screen out the high-quality Agropyron Gaertn.forage varieties(lines)suitable for planting in the Hebei Province and enrich the herbage resources in this area, sixteen Agropyron materials for forage grass with different sources and ploidy were selected for comprehensive analysis.By investigating the growth period, agronomic traits, and nutritional elements, using methods such as variance analysis, correlation analysis, gray correlation analysis, etc.,the research materials were comprehensively evaluated for the production performance and nutritional value. The study also laid a theoretical foundation for Agropyron forage breeding and planting. The results were as follow.1.The growth period of 16 study materials of A.Gaertn.was 275–284 d,all of which grew well, the vegetative growth period was 113–118 d,and the reproductive growth period was 31–41 d.A3,Mengnong No.1,Hycrest-Mengnong,AZ879 and AZ1513 had the shortest time from the seedling stage to the heading stage, all of which were 214 d,which could be used as early-maturing candidate materials.2.There were significant differences in grain yield among the 16 research materials, among which AZ1513 had the highest grain yield of 4,176.01 kg·hm-2and AZ1512 had the lowest grain yield of 2,255.61 kg·hm-2.The correlation analysis of grain yield and yield components in A.Gaertn.showed that spike length, spike width, spikelets per spike, spikelets per spike and spike weight were positively correlated with seed yield. So,in the seed production, the spike length, spike width, spikelets per spike, spikelets per spike and spike weight could be increased by corresponding cultivation measures.3.The annual grass yield of 16 tested materials showed in the order of AZ1513(8.15t·hm-2)>Hycrest-Mengnong(7.80t·hm-2)>AZ879(7.50t·hm-2)>AZ1267(7.30t·hm-2)>A8(7.15 t·hm-2)>Mengnong No.1(7.10 t·hm-2)>A2(7.03t·hm-2)>A7(6.95 t·hm-2)>A1(6.60 t·hm-2)>A3(6.50 t·hm-2)>AZ605(6.4 t·hm-2)>A5(6.35t·hm-2)>A4(6.00 t·hm-2)>AZ1512(5.80 t·hm-2)>A6(5.65 t·hm-2)>Nordan(5.5 t·hm-2).Among them, the grass yield of AZ1513 s howed the highest, which was 1.48 times of that of Nordan;and its leaves we re abundant.So,AZ1513 could be used as an excellent forage grass for dome stic animals.4.The contents of crude protein(CP),ether extract(EE),crude ash(Ash),neutral detergent fiber(NDF),acid detergent fiber(ADF),Ca and P in 16 tested materials all reached the best at heading stage(HS),and there were significant differences among the materials.CP content and nutritional value of AZ879 were the highest(27.10%)at HS.The lowest CP content was AZ605(21.45%).The content of ether extract in AZ879 showed the highest(7.27%)at HS,the lowest EE was AZ1513(5.67%).The Ash content at HS,A3 detected the lowest(5.91%),and the quality was the best;the highest was A6(6.64%).The content of Ca at HS,AZ879 showed the highest(0.30%),Mengnong No.1 detected the lowest(0.20%).A5 showed the highest content of P(0.39%),and Nordan had the lowest(0.29%).At heading stage, the lowest acid detergent fiber(ADF)content was A4(34.88%),the highest acid detergent fiber(ADF)content was Nordan(62.04%),the lowest neutral detergent fiber(NDF)content was AZ879(58.81%),and the highest neutral detergent fiber(NDF)content was AZ1512(69.52%).5.The essential amino acid index(EAAI)values of 16 tested materials were higher than 0.95 at HS except Mengnong No.1,and Z605 and Z879 showed higher EAAI values at HS,the flowering stage and the mature stage, which could be used as high-quality protein forage.6.The important indexes of Agropyron forage were comprehensively evaluated by grey relational grade analysis, and the order of weighted relational grade from top to bottom was Z1513>Hycrest-Mengnong>Z879>Nordan>AZ1267>A8>A3>AZ1512>AZ605>A5>A7>A1>A2>Mengnong No.1>A4>A6.
