Aralia elata(Miq.)Seem, belonging to the Araliaceae,is a perennial woody plant, and the burgeen of plants is a well-known wild vegetable.Due to the immature cultivation techniques of A.elata, there exist a series of problems including the seedling reproduction with difficulty, low survival rate and the overwintering death,et al.In addition, the burgeen of plants was picked randomly that casued the wild resources of the A.elata sharply reducing and the ecological environment seriously damaged. Therefore,in view of the problem existing in the production, with the A.elata as material, this research studied effects of different specifications, root cutting period, foreign substances and fertilizer on germination, growth and overwintering ability of seedlings of the root insertion and propagation, which can provide technical and theoretical foundations for resources protection and large-scale production of the A.elata.of The results of the experiment are as follows:(1)Different sizes of root segments have significant effects on the germination and growth of root inserts of A.elata.With the length of root segment 6 cm,it was not conducive to the germination and growth of root-inserted seedlings at all treatments of root segments thickness.Withthe 12 cm length and 14±2 mm thickness of the root segment, the germination rate was the highest, accompanied with the shortest germination time. When the length of root segment was 9cm and the thickness was 14±2 mm,the propagation coefficient of root-inserted seedlings was the highest, and it was the most favorable for the growth of root-inserted seedlings. The plant height, stem diameters, leaves number and root lengths of root-inserted seedlings were significantly increased, and POD and PPO activities of roots were increased,IAAO activity decreased, increasing IAA/ABA and GA3contents of roots. With 14±2 mm thickness of the root segment, although and time the 12 cm long root segment occurred the highest germination rate and shortest germination time, while with the treatment of 9 cm long root segment, the propagation coefficient is higher, the germination time of 9 cm long root segment appearing no difference compared with that of 12 cm long root segment, moreover, the 9 cm long root segmentwas the most conducive to the growth of the root-insertion seedlings, saving the root segment.Overall consideration, the root segment of 9 cmlength and 14±2 mm thickness was the most appropriate for root-insertion propagation in A.elata.(2)Under the different stages of root insertion, the germination, growth and wintering ability of A.elata revealed differences significantly. The root-insertion seedlings showed the highest germination rate and propagation coefficient in May,followed by April and June, and appeared the lowest in July. The growth indexes of all the root-inserted seedlings in May were at the highest level, with contents of soluble sugar, soluble protein and proline of the branches of A.elata significantly increasing. Moreover, the maturity and seedling formation rate of A.elata over the wintering process were higher.Comprehensive consideration, the best month making for root insertion propagation of A.elata is May.(3)Different cultivation measures had significant effects on the germination and growth of root-inserted seedlings of A.elata.The optimum substrate for root insertion propagation in A.elata is peat:vermiculite=1:1.Conducting the root insert propagation of A.elata,IBA with the concentration of 200 mg/kg and the urea applied with 8.58 kg/667 m2promoting mostly the germination and growth of the root insert seedlings. With the application amount and concentration elevating, the germination and growth of the root insert seedlings were attenuated.(4)Exogenous substances significantly influenced root-planting seedlings of A.elata overwintering. The cycogan could significantly inhibit plants height, increasing stems diameter, followed by ethephon. In conclusion,500 mg/kg C&P can significantly promote the greening rate of root-transplanted seedlings, decreasing the total water content and elevating the ratio of bound water to free water, moreover, branch maturity and the resistance-related physiological indexes keeping a high level.(5)Different fertilizer treatment significantly impacted the overwintering ability of root-planting seedlings in A.elata.Compared with the control, the application of phosphorus and potassium could strengthen the overwintering ability of root-planting seedlings in different degrees, with the elevating effect of phosphorus preceding that of potassium.Consequently, the combined application of calcium superphosphate applied with 13.34 kg/667 m2and potassium sulfate applied with 12 kg/667 m2was the most conductive to strengthen the overwintering ability of root-planting seedlings of A.elata, with high maturity of branches, low total water content, high ratio of bound water to free water, high resistance-related physiological indexes and enzyme activities, and high rate of returning green.
