Banana production is depended on large amount of water and fertilizer demand. The establishment of a reasonable irrigation and fertilization schedule to save water and fertilizer, reduce the negative impacts of excessive fertilization, labours and planting costs is of great significance. The pot experiment and field experiment were conducted to study the influence of soil suction and different nitrogen application on banana growth and quality. The basic physical and chemical properties of soil in banana field in Xuwen County, the relationship between nitrogen and potassium contents in soil solution and nitrogen and potassium contents in soil, and the growth and yield quality of banana under different soil suction and fertilizer rates were studied. The main results are as follows:(1)The soil particles in Xuwen County Banana field is mainly composed of silt and clay. The p H of the soil is generally close to 4.8.The content of available potassium in soil is very high, and the available potassium in 66.67% banana soil is extremely abundant.(2)The contents of nitrate, total nitrogen and total potassium in soil solution of 14 banana fields were not significantly different among 5 suctions(5KPa、15KPa、30KPa、50KPa and 70KPa).The content of nitrate and total nitrogen in the soil solution of banana field was significantly positively correlated with the content of soil alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen. The content of potassium in the soil solution was significantly positively correlated with the content of available potassium and total potassium in the soil. The correlation between the content of nitrogen and potassium in soil solution and soil of pot experiments value of soils in 14 banana fields.(3)With the same fertilization level, the irrigation started at suction of 30 KPa and 50 KPa did not make obvious difference effect on banana plant height, diameter of stem, leaf width, leaf number,SPAD,dry biomass of each part, total N,P and K content of leaves and pseudo-stem and yield and quality. Therefore, the soil suction of 50 KPa can be used to guide irrigation. There was no significant difference in plant height, diameter of pseudo-stem,leaf width, number of leaves,SPAD and dry biomass of each part of the plant at different fertilization levels of the same soil suction. Therefore, with the same soil fertility level as in this experiment, less nitrogen fertilizer should be applied at the seedling stage of the banana. To sum up,the accumulation of rapidly available potassium is obvious in Xuwen County, the amount of potassium fertilizer in the banana fertilization schedule needs to be reduced. The soil suction of 50 KPa can be used as the control parameter for banana starting irrigation. The nitrate nitrogen and potassium content in soil solution can be used to indicate the supply status of nitrogen and potassium fertilizer, and the content of nitrate nitrogen and potassium in soil solution was expected to be used as a guide for fertilization.
