Pyricularia oryzae syn.Magnaporthe oryzae,a rice blast fungus, greatly endangers the worldwide rice production.Effectors play key roles during the infection on rice.Gene functional study of effectors involved in pathogenesis will further help to understand the mechanism of M.oryzae pathogenesis and provide new ideas for rice blast disease prevention and control.Previous studies in our laboratory found that two LxAR-like effectors from M.oryzae triggered program cell death in Nicotiana benthamiana and rice with Agrobactria-mediated transient expression assay. In this study,we prokaryotically expressed and purified recombination MoLLE1 and MoLLE2 proteins from E.coil.These two proteins were able to induce cell death in N.benthamiana at 5μM as minimal concentration.LvAR motif was found in these proteins and was required for MoLLE2-mediated cell death rather than MoLLEl,indicating that LvAR motif may not act as a key element to induce cell death.MoLLE1 and MoLLE2 recombinant proteins inhibited seed germination of tobacco and Arabidopsis thaliana.Furthermore, pretreatment of rice with MoLLE1 or MoLLE2 enhanced resistance against rice blast fungus. Our study provides basic data for the interaction between rice and rice blast.
