| The research on the historical river system of Nanjing can be divided into several types: the cartographic or historical geography research on the evolution process of historical river system in Nanjing, the urban history research on the influence of the geography which effect on the city and the historical studies on the transformation process of the management of river system in Nanjing. These researches focus on cartography, historical geography, urban history, hydrology and other disciplines. While paying attention to a specific river system, there are not many interdisciplinary studies on its evolution process, the interaction with the city and the principles behind. This research aims to take a typical sector in Nanjing as an example and to study the law of the interaction between the river system and the city by combing the evolution process of both the river system and the urban space in various periods. At the same time, this article try to find the answer sbout how the artificial agent and natural agent shaped the river system in this particular area. This thesis conducts GIS simulations on the hydrological conditions of the particulate research area in the first place to understand the distribution of river networks and basin areas under natural conditions. At the same time,in order to summarize the mutual shaping agent between water system and urban space,it integrates historical maps and documents to speculate geographic information of both the historical river system and urban space in the southeast sector of Nanjing. The first chapter introduces the background, literature review, research object, methods and structure of the thesis. After that, with the purpose of explaining the advantages and disadvantages of the geography and hydrology system of the southeast sector of Nanjing, this thesis systematically analyzes the natural and regional geographical conditions of this particular area. The third chapter sorts out several historical periods which had a profound impact on the river system and the city of southeast sector before the Ming Dynasty. Then comes the main body of the thesis, the fourth & fifth chapters. This part combs the development of this area and important hydraulic engineering projects from 1366 A.D.to 1831 A.D.,and 1831 A.D.to 1937 A.D.separately.After that, the author points out the reason of the changes in the strategies of hydraulic construction between these two periods is that the status and functions of this sector were different. The governments of the Ming & the Qing Dynasty focused on optimizing the transportation and defense capabilities of river system, while the government of the Republic of China tried to rebuild it into a more entertaining and hygienic way.The concluding part summarizes the whole article and explains the deficiencies of this research. This thesis contains about 45 000 words,46 pictures and charts. |
