With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, the average life expectancy has increased significantly, and the problem of aging population has become increasingly prominent.According to statistics,at the end of 2018,the number of Chinese people whose age are over 65 has exceeded 160 million, accounting for about 11.9%,which is still growing. The problems brought by the aging population affect all aspects of social life, such as increasing of the investment in elderly facilities and funds.Due to changes in physiological and psychological conditions caused by age,the life pattern of elder people has significantly changed, compared with young people, especially in daily transportation.Improving infrastructures and proposing political strategies aiming at the special circumstances of the elderly is an important measure to ensure the elder people’s ability to travel and improve their satisfaction with society. It is necessary to make a systematic study of the transportation rules of elder people. This paper conducted a survey of the elderly in Tianjin, and collected a series of attributes such as age, income, and family structure of the elderly. From the perspective of the travel chain,a comparative analysis is made of the travel purpose, travel distance, travel time, travel time selection, travel mode selection, etc.of the elderly with different attributes, describes the overall characteristics of the elderly travel chain, and reveals the elderly Commonness and characteristics of the travel chain.Based on the survey data and statistical analysis, the survey samples were processed with data, and factors such as gender, age, education, income, and family structure of the elderly were comprehensively considered, used different purposes of travel as options to establish multiple Logit model to research the elderlies’ travel rules. The model results show that gender, age, and family structure have a significant effect on the travel purpose of the elderly. The probability of male elderly leisure travel is significantly higher than that of female elderly, while the probability of female elderly shopping travel is higher than that of male elderly. With the increase of age,the probability of elderly people’s leisure travel and medical examination and medical treatment increases, and the probability of other purposes of travel decreases;the probability of various types of elderly people with different family structures is significantly different. The same thinking is used to establish the elderly travel time selection model and travel mode selection model, and the elderly travel purpose is added to the model as a variable to realize the purpose, time and mode of the elderly travel chain. The model results show that with the increase of age,the elderly’s trip rate decreases in the morning peak and evening hours;the elderly who need to take care of school-age children tend to travel in the morning peak hours and in the afternoon;the effect of travel purpose on the choice of travel mode is obvious. The study found that leisure and entertainment trips at night are an important part of the elderly’s daily trips. Therefore, the elderly’s evening leisure activities have been studied in depth. The results show that older people prefer sports at night.Gender, age, family structure, and physical condition all have significant effects on the choice of evening leisure activities. Finally, this article investigates the current situation of the transportation environment of elder people, and analyzes the changes of the physical conditions and their need of transportation.Basing on this, the article proposes improving policies to meet the transportation needs of the elder people and ensures a convenient and comfortable transportation and a leisure entertainment environment for them.
