Construction Project Management Using 5D BIM: Solution For Delay And Cost Overrun

In order to successfully deliver the construction project,the traditional objective of project management is the coordination of tasks building to successfully acquire and deliver projects built on time,within budget according to contract specifications.For this,certain project objectives must be achieved within a determined time frame and budget.The delay and costs overrun are two major flaws because they can interfere with a successful project.The management of construction projects gives a great insight into the impact of project cost overrun and delay in the construction industry in underdeveloped countries,especially in sub-Saharan Africa with a huge infrastructure deficit.In order to make the construction process faster,safer,convenient,and more precise,there are still various challenges because the industry suffers from poor quality,poor communication,cost overruns,and project completion delays.With the rise of the Building Information Model(BIM),an optional innovation is accepted to solve the problems identified with the business cost and time control,as it effectively expands the cooperation between the partners.Examining BIM applications showed that most applications are designed to minimize construction costs and time spent on projects.The 3D model is the geometry model and when attached the time will be 4D and 5D when combined with the cost.This approach enables contractors to reliably identify the project cost,the project schedule when these costs are expected while allowing the schedule to be optimized by taking into account the amount of material derived from the model and the productivity rate of the construction teams.The purpose of this study is to provide a clear understanding of BIM 5D in the construction industry,based on the fifth dimension of BIM(BIM 5D)and its application program,we could well describe the structural system that incorporates 3D design with the budget and the schedule and thus provides a 5D tool for construction project management.By looking at the advantages,difficulties,and motivation factors that help to apply it.
