Energy is fundamentally the ability to do work.The society came about to be as complex and modernized as it is due to evolutionary paths taken in energy conversion from one form to another.The world is however majorly concerned of the utilities to reduce the emissions from electricity generating plants by employing renewable energy and to supply and at a low cost electricity to rural areas.Renewable energy technologies are suitable for off-grid services,serving the rural or remote areas,when the facility of utility grid are not available and difficult or impossible to build or extend expensive and complicated grid infrastructure.Therefore offgrid system using renewable energy sources have become a preferred option.Hybrid energy systems have been attracting to supply electricity to rural areas in all aspects like,reliability,sustainability and environmental protections,especially for communities living far in areas where grid extension is not appropriate.The aim of this thesis is to model and simulate an off-grid hybrid energy system comprised of wind,wave and Photovoltaic(PV)energy and a battery storage to provide a continuous power supply.The development of an off-grid hybrid energy system has been discussed in this thesis and a model of the off-grid hybrid power system consist of wind,wave and photovoltaic(PV)energy sources,which are connected together for power generation,and a battery energy storage to store the generated power and to provide a continuous power supply to electrical loads.Hybrid wind,wave,and photovoltaic energy system is proposed to provide a realistic form of power generation.The modelling and simulation of hybrid renewable energy power generation systems and energy storage for off-grid system has been focused.Matlab /Simulink has been utilized to simulate and model the overall system consist of three different power sources and for plotting the results.The model is useful for simulation of hybrid wind,wave and Photovoltaic(PV)energy system for off-grid operation.The behaviour of hybrid system employing renewable and variable in time energy sources while providing a continuous supply.Harnessing the abundant supply of wind,wave and solar energy can play an important role in ensuring an environmentally friendly and clean energy generation for rural or remote areas and isolated communities.However,renewable energy sources are intermittent in nature,and as a result,power generation from renewable energy sources often may not necessarily match the load demand.Therefore,energy storage is required to ensure reliable power supply.
