BIM-Aided Project Management Maturity Model From Owner’s Perspective

With the development of BIM technology,its related applications are being promoted in full swing in China.Being came up with BIM national standards one by one,the application of BIM in project management are entering a new stage.The owner is not only the leader who participate the whole life cycle of the construction project,but also the biggest beneficiary undoubtedly.The BIM project management application of owners in China is still in a primary period.The key to promote the benefit of BIM in the construction industry is how owners use BIM effectively in the whole life cycle of project management.The maturity model can evaluate the ability of owners to apply BIM in project management and find out problems of BIM apply to project management.As a result of making improvements for the problems,the level of using BIM in project management will be improved.By reference relevant literature on BIM research and application at home and abroad,this paper analyzes the application of BIM in various stages of construction projects from the perspective of owners.Refer to existing maturity models that are highly recognized.Summarize the methodology of maturity model and the general steps of building maturity model.Five maturity levels are divided,and 10 first-level indicators and 25 second-level indicators are selected according to the interview to build a BIM project management maturity index system from the owner’s perspective.Establish the evaluation description form corresponding to the maturity level of each index.Data were collected by questionnaires,and the collected data were processed by analytic hierarchy process(AHP)to confirm the weight of each primary and secondary index.This paper introduces the steps of calculating maturity evaluation score with the model constructed by fuzzy comprehensive evaluation.Finally,evaluate the selected cases and verify the feasibility and reliability of the BIM project management maturity model from the owner’s perspective.The maturity score of the project is 2.68,and the maturity is at the level of reaching the growth level and approaching the level of improvement.Risk management and later stage management are at the initial level,close to the growth level,lower than the average level of BIM project management application,and owners need to focus on the improvement of them.It is suggested to improve the management in the lower stage of application and pay attention to the application of BIM project management in the whole life cycle of the project.BIM technology helps to communications and benefits all participants of the project.As the biggest beneficiary and leader of project,it is very significant to improve the ability of owners to apply BIM to project management.With BIM project management maturity model from the perspective of owners,can evaluation project and gives suggestions to owners.The suggestions based on the evaluation results can effectively help owners to improve BIM project management capabilities.
