The eddy current damper is a new type of damper for energy dissipation,it has many advantages such as non-contact,damping coefficient adjustable simply,easy installation and maintenance,durability well and low noise,and has a good prospects for engineering application in recent years.Based on the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC)project “The theory and technology of three-element passive mitigation of structural vibration and its performance improvement for vibration control of stay cable”(51878274),study on simulation and mechanical property test of the new axial eddy current damper(AECD),and further analysis AECD properties for a single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF)structure subjected to harmonic excitation and multistory frame structure subjected to seismic excitation,and that is aim to offer some references for engineering application.The main contents and conclusions of this paper are as follows:1.Studying on the AECD mechanical properties.Using servo device to test AECD mechanical properties;compared the finite element simulation results with testing results;a mechanical model of AECD was established based on magic formula;the parameter optimization analysis of the eddy current damping unit was carried out.The results show that axial damping force and axial velocity have non-linear features;the simulation results of eddy current damping matches well with test results;magic formula mechanical model can depict the mechanical behavior of eddy current damping accurately;the energy consumption efficiency is high after the damping parameters were optimized.2.Studying on the vibration mitigation effect of SDOF structure with AECD.Designed a structural model of SDOF,the SDOF structure with AECD testing platform was established;the simulation analysis method was set up based on the mechanical model of AECD,the simulation results of structural response were obtained in different cases,and compared simulation results with test results;further study on structural vibration mitigation effect in different parameters of the damper.The results show that the AECD can effectively reduce the structural response,and the simulation results match well with test results.3.Studying on the seismic control effect of multistory frame structure with AECD.Taking the simplified shear model of a five-story frame structure as an example,The structure response with the different damper in earthquake was compared and analyzed,and the influence of different index of the damper with the top floor displacement,the top floor acceleration,inter-story drift,base shear,damper response,and structural energy dissipation et al.The results show that axial eddy current damper can reduce the dynamic response of five-story frame structure,the axial eddy current damping can effectively replace viscous damper,and has slightly better seismic mitigation effect compared with equivalent viscous damping.
