Abstract/Summary:
Engineering education professional accreditation is an important means to improve and guarantee the quality of engineering education,and it is also an important field of engineering education research.With the acceleration of globalization,transnational cooperation in the engineering industry is getting closer and closer.How to deal with the influence from more transnational forces,how to adapt to the requirements of the new scientific and technological revolution for the change of the contents and methods of engineering education,and how to train comprehensive engineering talents in line with the market demand in the new era have become an important issue facing all countries.As an important means to solve this problem,engineering education professional accreditation has attracted great attention from the government,universities and industry.This paper focuses on how the professional accreditation of higher engineering education has influenced the engineering education system,what functions and values the professional accreditation has in the development of engineering education,what ideas it has practiced,and how to provide external quality assurance for engineering education.As one of the earliest western countries to carry out professional accreditation of engineering education,Britain has formed a relatively perfect professional accreditation system and formed its own characteristics in the development process.As one of the six founding countries of washington accord,the quality of engineering education in Britain enjoys a high reputation all over the world.It is of great value and significance for improving the quality of engineering education worldwide to explore the development process,content,operation procedure and operation mode of professional accreditation of engineering education in Britain.The research shows that the professional accreditation of higher engineering education in Britain is not only a supervision and inspection mechanism for the status of engineering education,but also plays an important role in deepening the reform of higher engineering education.Through the case study of the electrical and electronic engineering major of Imperial College of Technology,it is concluded that the three concepts of student-centered,achievement-oriented and continuous improvement are practiced in the implementation of the professional accreditation of higher engineering education in Britain,and the curriculum reform is constantly promoted.In a word,the professional accreditation of higher engineering education will play a more important role in the future.This thesis is mainly divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction.This part mainly analyzes the origin of the research problem,defines the related concepts involved in the research,and clarifies the research purpose,significance,difficulties and research methods on the basis of further analyzing the research status.The second part mainly analyzes the background and establishment process of professional accreditation of British higher engineering education.The background is mainly analyzed from three aspects: government,higher education institutions and industry.By studying the establishment process of British Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency,British Engineering Committee and various engineering professional associations,this paper analyzes the establishment process of British tertiary accreditation system.It has an overall control over the development of professional accreditation of higher engineering education in Britain.The third part mainly analyzes the status quo of professional accreditation of higher engineering education in Britain.Firstly,we understand the organization system,roles and functions of professional accreditation of higher engineering education in Britain.Secondly,according to the fourth edition of professional accreditation standard of higher engineering education in Britain,we analyze the content,function and value of professional accreditation.The fourth part,taking the electrical and electronic engineering major of Imperial College London as an example,studies the implementation of professional accreditation of engineering education,analyzes how professional accreditation can improve the quality of engineering education in colleges and universities and promote its curriculum reform,and analyzes how the concept of professional accreditation is implemented in practice.The fifth part,based on the previous research,summarizes the characteristics of higher engineering education professional accreditation in Britain and gains experience.
