The "14th Five-Year Plan" clearly stated that by the end of 2025,the urbanization rate of my country’s permanent population will reach 65%.Energy is an indispensable input element for urban construction, which means that as the process of new urbanization continues to advance, more energy will inevitably be used for urban infrastructure construction and urban residents’ daily consumption.Based on the panel data of 9 cities in the Pearl River Delta from 2005 to 2019,this paper uses a common panel model to conduct an empirical study on the relationship between the urbanization process and energy consumption of the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration, including the overall urbanization process and energy consumption of the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration. The relationship between energy consumption and the urbanization process of Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing,ShenzhenDongguan-Huizhou and Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen metropolis area. The main conclusions are as follows:First,in general, the urbanization process of the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration has an inverted N-shaped relationship with energy consumption. The current urbanization rate of the Pearl River Delta is already on the right side of the second inflection point of the cubic curve, indicating that with urbanization With the increase of energy consumption rate, its energy consumption has a downward trend, and this inhibitory effect has a tendency to increase.Among the variables that affect its energy consumption,in descending order of impact, they are:urbanization rate, the proportion of secondary industry’s added value in GDP,the number of permanent residents, the proportion of tertiary industry’s added value in GDP,and per capita GDP.Second,in the Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing metropolitan area, the urbanization process and energy consumption have an inverted U curve relationship. The current urbanization rate in the Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing metropolitan area is on the right side of the inflection point of the quadratic curve, indicating As the urbanization rate increases, its energy consumption has a downward trend. For the Guangzhou-FoshanZhaoqing Metropolitan Area, among the variables that affect its energy consumption,in descending order of impact, they are:urbanization rate, number of permanent residents, proportion of secondary industry’s added value in GDP,and tertiary industry’s increase Per capita GDP’s impact on energy consumption is not significant at the 10%statistical level;Third,in the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou metropolitan area, the urbanization process and energy consumption have an N-shaped curve relationship. The current urbanization rate of the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou metropolitan area is already on the right side of the second inflection point of the cubic curve, indicating that with As the urbanization rate increases, its energy consumption has an upward trend;for the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou metropolitan area, among the variables that affect its energy consumption,in descending order of influence:urbanization rate, third The proportion of industrial added value in GDP,the number of permanent residents, per capita GDP,and the proportion of added value of the secondary industry in GDP on energy consumption are not significant at the 10%statistical level;Fourth,in the Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Metropolitan Area, the urbanization process and energy consumption are in an inverted U-shaped curve. The current urbanization rate of the Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Metropolitan Area is on the right side of the inflection point of the quadratic curve, indicating that the urbanization rate increases with the urbanization rate. With the increase of energy consumption, its energy consumption has a downward trend. For the Pearl River Metropolitan Area, among the variables that affect its energy consumption,in descending order of impact:urbanization rate, secondary industry added value as a percentage of GDP,number of permanent residents, per capita GDP,third The impact of industrial added value as a proportion of GDP on energy consumption is not significant at the10%statistical level;Fifth, judging from the effects of various variables on the energy consumption of different metropolitan areas, the current urbanization level of the Guangzhou-FoshanZhaozhou and the Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen metropolitan area is at the right side of the inverted U-shaped curve, and the urbanization level of the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou metropolitan area At the right stage of the second inflection point of the N-shaped curve, the core explanatory variable urbanization rate has an inhibitory effect on the Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing and the Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen metropolitan area, while promoting the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou metropolitan area;the control variables per capita GDP,The proportion of the added value of the secondary industry in GDP,the proportion of added value of the tertiary industry in GDP,and the number of permanent residents all have different degrees of promotion for the three metropolitan areas. Finally, policy recommendations are given from three aspects:one is to focus on the coordinated development of urbanization and energy consumption;the second is to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and optimize the industrial structure;the third is to increase support for the new energy industry. |
