Abstract/Summary:
The use of liquid hydrogen, although very promising in terms of automotive applications, raises safety issues for transport and storage, especially in confined spaces. This thesis studies the release and dispersion behavior of hydrogen in a tunnel and in a gas station from a 150 mm diameter safety valve of a liquid hydrogen tank using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)software FLOW-3D.The model is designed to study the velocity, temperature and hydrogen concentration over time.A sensitivity test is carried out to investigate the influences from releasing truck, wind, different mass flow rates and release temperatures. For the tunnel, the presence of the truck and the wind have been found to have the most important impact on dispersion. For the gas station, the geometry of the situation and the wind and its velocity showed to have the most influence on the hydrogen dispersion. For both cases, the temperature showed a limited influence.
