How to evaluate designs to help designers quickly find pain points, reduce irrationality in design and iterative is an important issue in product development process. At present, most of the researches about evaluation of metro train’s passenger interface are focused on evaluation standards, indicators and evaluation methodology. The application of the evaluation method is relatively single, and there is a lack of research on user experience.Especially for three-dimensional environments, due to cost constraints, renderings or two-dimensional animations are generally used for display.Evaluators lack a sense of presence and immersion during evaluation, making it difficult to produce an immersive experience.Virtual reality technology provides a new way for design evaluation. The evaluator can perform real-time roaming in the virtual product environment through visual and auditory perception,so that they can evaluated the product objectively. This paper designs an evaluation system for metro train’s visual environment by constructing the user’s mental model,in order to improve the user experience of the evaluation process and improve the accuracy of design evaluation. The details are as follows.Firstly, the Interaction Design methodology based on the mental model is used to sort out the main content, index system and evaluation method of the visual environment evaluation of metro train’s passenger interface,so as to determine the functional requirements of the software.Based on comparative research, this article studies the design methods about virtual reality interface and interaction methods, and provides references for subsequent design.Secondly, this article uses the mental model method to study the user experience design in virtual reality, establishes the relationship between the user experience and the mental model. These studies provide a theoretical basis for constructing users’ mental models Through user interviews,we further explore users requirements for evaluation of metro train’s passenger interface design, analyze users’ preferences for interfaces and interaction methods, and their potential expectations and emotional needs when using evaluation systems, and build user mental models.Thirdly, the author extracts the useful information of the mental model, translates the user needs into the functional definition of the page, and draws out the information system architecture. The author designs software systems, conducts a testing to evaluate the usability of the prototype, and verifies the user experience in the mental model of interface design based on the theoretical system. Finally, the system is developed using the Unreal Engine. This article expands the interaction design research into three-dimensional space by studying the interaction design methods of virtual reality and the virtual reality user experience design based on mental models. It has a reference significance for software design and development based on virtual reality, and has certain academic value and reference significance. At the same time,in the evaluation of metro train, this paper also provides corresponding theoretical basis and new tools and methods for it.
