Over the past 40 years of reform and opening,China has made remarkable achievements in import and export trade.In recent years,China has followed the trend of economic globalization,continued to expand trade,and has occupied an increasingly important position in global trade.Trade,especially exports,has become increasingly prominent in China’s national economy and has become one of the most important forces supporting China’s economic development.Therefore,under the new economic situation,how to maintain stable export growth and further promote economic development has become a crucial topic.At the same time,China’s high-speed railway construction has made great progress.Since the operation of the first high-speed railway in 2008,high-speed railway lines throughout China have been operating successively.As of 2017,the operating mileage of high-speed railways has reached 25,200 kilometers.The"high-speed railway effect" has also received widespread attention from all walks of life,and high-speed rail construction has become a new driving point for China’s economic growth.This paper focuses on the export effect of high-speed rail operations.At present,there are relatively few studies in this area and no systematic theory has been formed.This paper is helpful for a deeper understanding of the impact of high-speed rail operations on exports and complements the current scarce theories.This paper also provides reference for the laying and layout of the high-speed rail,and strengthens the ties and cooperation between regions,has practical significance for relying on high-speed rail to drive exports and promote balanced regional development.This paper is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction,including research background and significance,literature review,research content and methods,innovation points and deficiencies.The literature review includes the impact of transportation infrastructure on economy and trade,the impact of high-speed rail on the economy and trade.The second part is the theoretical basis.This paper is guided by the theory of new economic geography,factor endowment theory,and new production factor theory.The third part is the analysis of the development status of China’s high-speed rail and exports,including an overview of China’s high-speed rail operating mileage and routes,passenger transportation,regional distribution characteristics,etc.At the same time,this part outlines China’s export scale,structure,distribution and other characteristics.The fourth part is the analysis of the effect mechanism of high-speed rail operations on exports.This part describes the effect mechanism from three aspects:one is to reduce the cost of communication and information;the second is to reduce the space-time distance;the third is Reduced freight costs.The fifth part is an empirical analysis of the impact of high-speed rail operations on China’s city exports.This paper uses the panel data of 253 prefecture-level cities in China from 2007 to 2017 to construct a DID model to test the relationship between the two.The results show that,in general,high-speed rail operations can significantly promote exports,but have a certain time lag and uneven promotion.The sixth part is conclusions and recommendations.This part is a summary of this article.Based on the conclusions,this part proposes targeted policy recommendations,including improving the high-speed rail network,guiding the flow and improving the efficiency of FDI,and implementing regional differentiated development.Therefore,the marginal contribution of this paper lies in:firstly,this paper supplemented the currently lacking theories,sorted out the impact mechanism,and verified that the high-speed rail operation has promoted a 7.7%increase in city exports;secondly,this paper Constructed a dummy time variable,and observed the year-by-year impact using a dynamic regression method,proved that the impact of high-speed rail operations on exports has a time lag of about one year;thirdly,Heterogeneity analysis found that the promotion of high-speed rail to small and medium-sized cities is more significant,and at the same time,the promotion of cities in eastern China is significantly greater than the other two regions;fourthly,This paper gave policy recommendations aimed at promoting economic growth and balanced development among regions,and accelerating the process of China’s economy from a high-speed growth stage to a high-quality development stage.
