[Objective] This study is dedicated to exploring the usability of hemodialysis machine systems.We take the two mainstream hemodialysis machines Fresenius 4008 S and Gambro AK200 systems as the research objects from the current hemodialysis market,and conduct a comparative experimental study between them.Through the usability test of two hemodialysis system,we aim to find out the key potential system problems and give some solutions to them.Hoping our efforts could bring the hemodialysis machine system with some useful optimization suggestion and some inspiration to its future design.[Methods] This study was carried out based on the usability research framework which defined by International Organization for Standardization with the standard of ISO9241-11:2018.From the perspectives of experts and users,we conducted the study through three dimensions for effectiveness,efficiency and satisfaction to the system.As the modern research methods,eye tracking methods was recruited to explore users’ experiment data.In addition,the traditional usability research methods for heuristic evaluation method and satisfaction survey by system usability scale method were also included.A comparative study of mathematical statistics was carried out to detected differences between two test groups,and visualization method was also used to make the results better understood.[Results] The usability research has fully revealed the usability problems of the two hemodialysis systems.It was found that the differences between the total experimental time,gaze time,saccade time,and number of blinks in the eye movement experiment passed the statistical test.The experiment found that the efficiency of using Fresenius’ system to complete experimental tasks was significantly higher than that of the Gambro’s.In addition,the results of the satisfaction survey show that the experimental satisfaction of the Fresenius’ experiment group is slightly higher than Gambro experiment group,and this finding is mutually corroborated by the results of the eye movement experiment.The results of the heuristic evaluation found that the flexibility,efficiency,and simplicity of the design of the two systems were the main problems that the system existed,which needed to be focused on.[Conclusions] The research results show that a good system design can improve the overall availability of the hemodialysis system.A simple design and high system integration will heighten the use efficiency of the hemodialysis system,and efficiency will further affect user’s satisfaction and the acceptance of hemodialysis equipment.Therefore,in the process of research and design of hemodialysis equipment,we must follow the regulation of usercentered design,pay attention to safety and functionality,constantly optimize and improve the system to obtain higher availability.
