Abstract/Summary:
The study of optical films has become an important branch of modern optics field. The various optical properties of core components of many optical systems are realized by their optical films. The optimal design method for polarization properties for optical films is studied in this paper, which is a process of inversely calculating the corresponding film structure with the specified spectral properties.(1)Based on the basic electromagnetic theory, the transmission matrix algorithm for calculating optical properties of optical film system is given in this paper.A method of traversal search is proposed, which can select the suitable material and suitable insertion position of film layer to “synthesize” the films, and then the film system is optimized by circulation. In addition,Akaike Information Criterion(AIC)and Bayesian Information Criterion(BIC)are introduced as a judgment method to evaluate the optimized design results by calculating the overall cost-performance.(2)A general film system optimal design software is written with the film system optimal design principle described in this paper by the Matlab GUI design tools. The steps of optimizing the design of various optical functional films are presented in the form of interactive interface with this software, which greatly facilitates the design process.(3)Four examples are given, that is the optimal design for anti-reflective films,short-wave band nonpolarizing beam splitter films,high-reflective film system with suppressed sub-reflective region and partial depolarizing films,to illustrate the ability and characteristics of this optimization method and the effect of information criterion application. The optimal design method of optical films and its software in this paper are helpful for non-professionals to optimize and design various functional films.
