The squirrel cage induction motor has lots of advantages,such as simple structure,low cost,wide range of constant power speed,high reliability,so it was part of the most widely used type of motor on electric vehicles.However,the problem of low running efficiency of an induction motor caused by improper parameter matching,control strategy and improper structure design is still present in electric vehicles,which affect the economy of the whole vehicle.By analysis of the power performance and fuel economy of the electric vehicle and drive motor external characteristic,proposed a matching method with the basis of the power performance and economy constraint for drive motor of electric vehicle,and the performance parameters of induction motor was calculated.Used the method of design of an induction motor for matching of the induction motor parameters,the main dimensions,the embedding method of the double layer winding of the motor were determined and finally overall design of the cast-copper cage induction motor was completed.The electromagnetic field,losses and temperature field of the motor are analyzed,used by the three-dimensional electromagnetic field model of cast-copper squirrel cage induction motor,and the prototype was tested,the results of simulation analysis and prototype test proved that designed cast-copper squirrel cage induction motor’s losses was lower,and the characteristics of electromagnetic and temperature met the design requirements.Proposed a multi-condition control method for induction motor based on the characteristics of electric vehicle operating conditions,the output response with different loads were analyzed used by Simulink,the result of analysis demonstrated that the designed induction motor had better speed and torque response.The cast-bronze squirrel cage induction motor designed by the optimized matching and structural design for the target vehicle,which size was reduced,the magnetic density distribution of the motor was more reasonable,and the overall operational efficiency of the motor was higher.
